Samsung and subtitles

Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171
Player Version#:4.15.2

I have a UN65NU8000 and have had subtitle issues in the past and would like some clarification on what the best format for subtitles are when wanting to direct play on my samsung? I only need them for foreign speaking parts. I would like to know so I can edit my collection.

SRT or VOBSUB?
Burnin or not?

Text based subtitles (like SRT) will be most compatible.
Most TVs / streaming boxes should play those fine without Plex requiring to burn them into the picture.

When it comes to picture based subtitles (like VOBSUB or PGS), it comes down to the capabilities of your player. Many TVs will run into trouble with those. Some of the set-top boxes might run ok with the new/experimental players.

The reason I am asking this question is because the Plex docs don’t mention anything about subtitles as to how they work on Samsung Tizen systems, and my history with them have been hit or miss. For example SRT’s have been work off and on, and VOBSOB’s are supported by the TV but usually always requires transcoding.

So before I go and change my media formats. I need a more definitive answer as to how they are being dealt with the Windows server and the app. .
