Samsung Plex App

Hi Guys

Can anyone tell me has the Samsung/Plex app stopped working. Since last two updates on PMS 11th and 14th October my Samsung Plex app has to be deleted and re-installed. Once installed it works for one video or session and the just cycles through and reverts to TV programmes. No access to Plex through TV. All other Aps working fine and Plex works fine from server to PC. So is issue; Samsung, Plex or Orcas app?

Please let me know, thanks in advance for you help.

I use this on 2 different Samsung TVs and it seems to work for me.
Ill double check later and confirm.

Hi there,

Could you please go into your Plex app on the Samsung and find the app version number and post it here? Thanks!

Yeah I just tested again and it works.

I’m using latest server and tv is running 4.5.1-56c0a92

Hi darcilicious

Thanks for response.

I am using (trying) the pre-loaded app from the Samsung Apps list. The Plex version is 2.012 (dated 20/8/2018) it is a 3rd party app created by Orca. There is a newer version of Orca app but Samsung are yet to update their system.

Further down this discussion; nokdim has a version 4.5.1-56c0a92 but there is nothing like that number on my TV system.

I just tried it again 10 am UK time and the same thing happened.

Deleted App turned off TV
Reinstalled app
Went to Plex TV link and input code
Plex worked fine. Paused video,
Tried restarting video and the app just cycled through for 3 or 4 minutes and reverted to TV programme and App lost as in just cycled through did not work
Turn TV off and restart, Plex cycles through and reverts to standard TV Channel

System
TV Samsung UE65JU65000 (Dec 2016)
Windows 7 Ultimate
WD PR2100 12TB server
Plex version for WD Plexmediaserver 1.18.0.1944.f2cae8d6b 14/10/2019

Hope this helps and once again thank you for your help.

Hello,

I have a similar problem with Samsung TV
on UE49MU6175 it’s ko my local plex server isn’t available
and on UE22H5600 it’s ok the connexion on my local plex server work perfectly

Regards

Unfortunately there really isn’t anything that can be done if Orca’s version isn’t working for you :frowning: It’s the only version that will install on older Samsungs but it isn’t supported by Plex and the developer isn’t able to make regular updates due to health reasons.

Based on this you have two options: try downgrading your server to the last working version (and never upgrade which may eventually introduce its own issues) or get a Roku/Fire TV stick or streamer.

As the server software is updated, clients that aren’t being maintained/updated are going to break, unfortunately.

Hi darcilicious

Thanks for replying. I rolled back to the last working Plex update and all is good. Big issue for me I bought the TV and Plex pass to avoid this very thing. TV is only 2 1/2 years old.

Thanks very much to you and the whole team for support and resolution.

Hi Les4Lous

I had to roll back to last working update. 1.17.0.1841 (5th October for me anyway)

Now everything is working fine again. Apparently it will cause an issue further down the line if I do not update Plex and risk issue with server.

Hello,
My problem is solved now , I’m not sure why but it’s perhaps only caused by an switch failure …
Regards,

Hello, is there anyone who can explain why i cant get truehd 7.1 on my samsung ue50ru7470? I have plex mediaserver on my computer and plex app on tv. It plays the movie that has truehd but i can only get ddigital 5.1 out of my reciever. If i go to audio settings i only can change volume Boost.

hopefully someone can tell whats wrong. Seriously thinking to stop using plex because of this.

I’m guessing you’re using HDMI-ARC to send audio to your receiver? If that’s the case, there’s nothing you can do about it. HDMI-ARC only supports compressed 5.1 audio. So no luck for uncompressed 5.1 or 7.1.

If you want truehd you need to run plex on a device (Roku, Nvidia shield, firestick etc etc) directly plugged into your receiver, or buy/wait for a TV (and receiver) that supports HDMI-eARC that supports high bitrate audio.
