Samsung smart TV Plex app

Hi i have some Samsung smart TV and have run PLEX successfully for over a year. i also have a Samsung home cinema HT-7750 (or something like that) that has run it well. Recently my TV ( UE55JS9000TXXU, 2015) and my home cinema is struggling with PLEX. All my other Samsung TVs work perfectly.

My TV Plex version is 2.012 PMS Version: 1.21.03711-b509cc236.

i have deleted PLEX and reinstated it but the app store says the 2018 version is the latest version?
My other TVs say the latest version is 5.1.0. (2020).

How do i get the 2015 Samsung TV to download the latest version of PLEX?

My auto app update is on.

Any help would be apricated

Your old tv is running the old Orca app. Which is unfortunately no longer developed.

Your TV cannot run the newer app which is developed by Plex. So you are basically stuck at the version you have, on this TV.
If you want newer Plex features, you will have to either:

  • replace the tv with a newer model
  • attach an additional “player” device with a supported Plex client on it (e.g. nVidia Shield, Apple TV, FireTV etc.)

thanks for the info.

Will this be the case with my HT-7750 home cinema system? i thought it was pretty new really. Also, i have 3 other (Newer) Samsung TVs am i to presume the same will happen to them eventually? it will get pretty expensive to replace TVs every few years or buy Nividia devices for all of them.

Thanks

Sorry, I don’t know what that is. Please see https://support.plex.tv/articles/204080173-which-smart-tv-models-are-supported/ for a list of currently supported Smart TVs.

There are no guarantees that a certain platform will be supporteed indefinitely. Particularly after even the manufacturer ceased support for them (which is typically the case after 3 or 4 years).

Experience shows that external player devices will get longer support (if you go with the major brands, that is).
