Samsung Q60T Client Chokes

Server Version#: Syno 4.30.2
Player Version#: Samsung 4.21.2 Tizen 5.5

Had this as a reply to another thread, but realized that thread was about audio issues.

Brand new Samsung Q60T, that replaced a 5 year old Vizio M65. The Vizio embedded Plex client had no problem direct playing anything from my local Syno PMS, both are wired. The Samsung chokes on anything over 720 4mbps streams. Starts by buffering, plays audio and video for a few seconds, then the video freezes while audio continues. After a few more seconds, the Samsung client shows an AVPlay error. Switching the Samsung from wired to wifi does nothing.

What audio format is the file playing? What subtitle format if any are you using?

The Samsung doesn’t support DTS codec which forces transcode which I guess your NAS can’t handle. That could be the reason.

If you play the video with AC3 sound and no subtitle, does it still act the same way?

That was my first thought, but I don’t think the NAS is the issue. I have a DS918+, which does very well with HD and BR, even transcoding down to something that can be viewed on a smartphone. I just tried using the Samsung browser and aside from being quite painful getting logged in the first time, it played just fine. So I think the issue is with the Samsung embedded Plex app, not the TV or PMS.

More specifically - the embedded Plex app does not seem to be able to handle bitstreams above 4Mbps.

It appears there is a newer Plex client for Samsung (4.25.2) that might address the problem, but it hasn’t been released for Tizen 5.5 - just the older versions. Anyway to sideload the newer app or get Samsung to release it?

And FWIW - there was a new version of the TV firmware (1115) released a few weeks ago that supposedly had TV and app support improvements. For reasons unknown it was not being identified/ installed using a network connection. Installed it from a USB stick, but it didn’t help.

And after all that, it does appear to be related to the lack of DTS support in either the Samsung TV or the Samsung embedded Plex app. When I select one of the non-DTS audio tracks (like French), the movie plays perfectly. Selecting either the DTS-HD or DTS tracks causes the video to freeze.

Yes, I had this problem too before. I batch converted all my audio tracks to ac3 and after that I have no issues, There might be some way to fix it but I never found one.
