Samsung TV app not showing 4 digit number

Hi there,

i got the weirdest problem suddenly. I had my internet hardware replaced by my local internet provider (you know, pay more, get faster internet blabla) and now suddenly i cannot connect it anymore to my pc.

I removed and downloaded the TV app several times now, like, a clean install.

when i start the app it shows this:

As you can see, in the past, and Normally, you`d get a 4 digit code that you than enter in provided link and voila connection is made. It just blatantly refuses to show me this code. I checked if it was the internet connection to my tv first but it states that the connection is fine. I mean, why wouldn’t it? I could not have downloaded plex on my tv in the first place if the internet to itself was faulty.

Some specs:
My TV is a Samsung smart TV UE40EH5300

My PC is a custom build one running with W7. I could give specific specs all you need, if needed, but i suspect the problem lies with the TV end since my library is still functional etc.

If you need anymore information, don’t hestitate to ask me!

Thanks in advance! /tela

I don’t understand, what does this do? What does this mean? What do i need to do to make it work again?

Please talk to me like “Push this button on your remote, than push this button” Turn your tv off and on or download something else on your tv or something, im not a programmer.

Click here: GitHub - kadrim/proxy4plex: Proxy Server for older Samsung Smart-TVs which only support TLS up to 1.1

and follow the instructions one by one.

Your TV is simply too old and cannot talk to plex.tv anymore, because it doesn’t support a communication protocol that hasn’t been broken.

The above linked solution tries to mitigate this with an additional software as a workaround. But IMHO this is only for computer-savvy people.
The alternative is either a new TV, or adding an external device like an Apple TV or an nVidia Shield.

This is ridiculous. A 6 year old TV is not too old in any way or shape. Who the hell would buy a new TV every 6 year for no reason if it still works perfectly?

All you do is send me to your competition. I`m not spending a penny or do complex workarounds just because you people refuse to make reliable software that actually lasts for a decent period of time.

You sir, is out of line here!

Please calm down, and read ahead!

The case:

First of all, I fully agree, that a 6 years old TV is not old, if still working fine, but…

You have a SmartTV, meaning a TV with a computer inside…

So,

TV might not be old, but it’s computer sadly is, been 6 years old!

And why am I focusing on the computer part is due to the following:

When a computer (From now on ref as a PC) access the internet, it’s vulnerable to not only the places it visit, but also to everything from the pc and towards the end point

As such, every vendor on the internet needs to make sure, that communication is secure, and safe for you!

Plex is a Company, that thanks goods do protect us!

As such, and due to evolution of both security measures, as well as hackers, Companies has to increase their security on a stady base, to protect us all

This sadly req. new technology, since hackers are on a bleeding edge here…

Your problem is, that your PC (Samsung TV) is 6 years old, and your manufacture of your TV decided not to provide updates to your TV, so it’s PC part could handle the new security standard on the internet. (And here not saying if it was a Samsung policy, or if the hardware in your TV simply can’t handle it)

The responds:

People up here provided you with a free, no cost way to fix your problem, but instead of reading up on those, you attacked us, so SHAME ON YOU!

We are doing this in our spare time just to be friendly, and to help!

And lastly:

From what I gather, you so far has not spend a penny for 6 years, since not supporting Plex, and is also refusing to follow simple instructions!

And the most funny thing here is, that you joined the forums 1 day ago, so the way I see it is that you without supporting/paying has been using Plex for 6 years, now has a problem, and then act like this!

As such, thread closed, and should you reconsider, start a new thread, in a better tone, as well as consider to support Plex!
