Samsung tv app won’t generate a ‘connect to Plex’ code

for the last few days the Samsung app on my old UE46ES7000 will not connect to my Plex account. I can connect to my server (manually using IP address) on this tv app(so I know not an issue with tv not on network), and I know everything else is set up correctly as I can login and access PMS from iPhone, desktop and even a different Samsung tv, with no issues!

However with the app on this particular tv, it hangs with the flashing yellow boxes in the top right when trying to sign in to an account or to generate a code on the ‘connect to Plex’ screen.

I have tried all the basics of deleting the app, hard power off of the tv and reinstalling etc. Even logged out and back in to PMS, re booted router.

Please can anyone suggest something I haven’t tried?

This old TV can unfortunately no longer communicate with plex.tv, because it only “speaks” old and unsecure communication protocols.

You can try this workaround Error pin activate
which is restricted to local server access only and doesn’t support different user accounts.

But apart from that, this here applies: Plex support is ending 2020-09-30 on older smart TV devices

Thank you!

That work around has managed it! It was the step of adding the server IP into the list of authorised IP addresses in PMS that had been missing from other solutions to similar issues I had found on the forums here.

Shame that the support for the app on older models has been withdrawn but understandable - can’t keep backwards compatibility forever if we want new features and new hardware supported I suppose!

Amazed at getting such a quick and as it turns out fully accurate response on here - first time using these forums but I guess it shows that there is a strong Plex community out there. Thanks again!
