I’m running a plex server on a Synology 918+ (local network). When plex connects it works like a dream. The only problem I have is that, when my “Smart” Samsung TV (UE40H6410) with plex app boots, it can’t initially find the server. But if you try to find the server 30 to 60 seconds later it’s all fine again. I do not have this problem while connecting from any browser or app (windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android), it’s just the TV. Before the synology I used a dedicated desktop as plex server. I didn’t have any connection problems back then.
My first thought was that it must be the TV in combination with the synology app. Or just the synology with a power saving mode or something. But I’m running the thing full blast for now (testing) without any power savings or any blocking settings.
I couldn’t find anything like it with mr google, so I thought I’d try my luck here. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Try changing the Plex app settings on your TV to allow for insecure connections. Also are you using Wi-Fi or Ethernet? If Wi-Fi try switching to a wired connection and see if that makes a difference. It sounds like a delay issue with acquiring a wifi connection when booting your TV. It may not be but if you can hardwire it to test it that will give you an answer.
Hi Chart2006, thank you for your reply.
All devices are on wired connections, unchanged from the situation before, same positions. I did get my hopes up for turning off the SSL connection, but hélas, no joy there either. After some testing I found out that it is in fact not the TV that can’t connect seeing Netflix does so without problems and if I go to preferences/network I see that I do in fact have a working connection to the network and internet. So it’s really a connection problem to the synology plex server. Cause if:
- I connect with the Plex server
- Turn my TV off
- Turn it on again
- Start plex
it connects instantly. It’s like Plex was sleeping, but now it’s awake and ready to connect. But like stated, only when the TV is connecting, not any other device seeing they all work fine.
Fixed it with a reinstall AND upped the general -> “extra server detection time in seconds” to 60 seconds. I’m guessing it was a little mix of Samsung install magic.
