Samsung TV Plex App audio cuts out

Please see my post from 5 days ago for a sample file with explanation.

i’m confused…

is this issue finally fixed in the newest beta?

I did some testing and it’s looking like an issue on PMS. I’m reaching out to our server team to try to find the problem.

PMS version 1.25.6.5577 still has that issue on my both Samsung TVs (2020 and 2021 models).
The latest PMS version that works fine with DTS audio is 1.24.5.5173.

Also having audio issues with a 4k movie with AAC audio.

PMS: 1.25.6.5577 (running on Synology DS920+)
TV: Samsung GQ85Q95T with installed Plex Client 5.32.1 and Plattform Version 5.5

@sLumpy: Tell me, if you need more information for debugging.

any good news on PMS 1.25.7.5604 regarding that issue?

No. I gave it a try and the issue still persists. But I also didn’t find anything in the change logs regarding the audio issue.

Confirming that downgrading to 1.24.5.5173 has temporarily solved the issue for me. This shouldn’t be a permanent solution though, as in my eyes, this does prove there is a problem that needs to be resolved in the near future.

Using the following lines in my Docker Compose:

  plex:
    image: linuxserver/plex #<snip>

    environment:
      - VERSION=docker
      - VERSION=1.24.5.5173-8dcc73a59 #<snip>

Instead of using the official Plex image, I prefer the LinuxServer version for the extra variables, but you may be able to do something similar with the official image.

The LinuxServer image doesn’t use an image tag, but an environment variable to determine which version you use. Worth a look if you want to try it out. It seems to disable the auto-update with both ā€œVERSIONā€ variables set in this way. I did it so that docker didn’t try and upgrade to a newer version upon reboot. So far, across multiple reboots/restarts, it hasn’t tried to upgrade.

DirectPlay and DirectStream now work properly, with no audio cutouts regardless of input codec (most of mine is Opus, but I have others mixed in that I’ve tested).

***WARNING***
I downgraded from 1.25.x to 1.24.5.5173 without issue, but YMMV. You may have to re-import your library, or it could screw up your entire setup, I don’t know. Be careful.

Also, I don’t know if switching from the official image to the LinuxServer image will work, so test thoroughly if you plan to make the change.

Finally, if you choose this route, you run the risk of your setup being unsupported, and if you need help, it’s likely you will be asked to upgrade before you get any: Plex Team Member Post, Proving this point

Hope this helps!

it’s weird that this crippling issue, that makes ANYONE with a samsung tv unable to use plex…

doesn’t seem to be getting any attention/fixed… its been months and months now : (

yes rolling back to 1.24 fixes it… but that’s hardly a fix, and most people probably aren’t gonna even figure that out… : ) : (

It’s not only the samsung tv client that’s having this issue with v. 1.25+. Plex client on XBOX One X also suffers the issue, although it takes a bit more time (playback) to show up.

Anyone an idea how to downgrade on a Synology DS920+? And also tested it?

Hi @remy00, this should give you the basic pointers.

If you’re using the DSM package, you’ll likely need to switch it out for the docker version. Apparently, many people have had a similar issue. But I’d recommend asking further specific questions about your NAS in the appropriate subforum. It’ll help keep this thread on topic, and you will get better answers from people who may have more experience with your device.

2 weeks have passed since you confirmed the bug. Would you be able to provide an ETA for a fix?

PMS v.1.25.8.5621 - issue still persists… and got maybe worse as it seems the sound only reappears when scrolling through the playback.

3 weeks. Hoping for some positive news soon

I wouldn’t hold your breath. This was first reported about in December!

Just to jump on the bandwagon - I’ve been having the exact same issue with my Samsung TV for several months :frowning:

Holding out hope it gets a fix but now looking to downgrade and try the older version like most people seem to have done.

Same here, started noticing this issue back in December, when trying to watch xmas movies.

The Samsung TV is only last years model, so I would expect it should still be supported.

Just to confirm same infuriating issue here, latest PMS Win10 version, Direct Play & Stream to Samsung TV- both DTS and AC3 streams of the same file cut out. Only started around an hour into playback, the odd sound drop then after a few minutes total loss. After shutdown & resume the dropouts seemed to come more quickly into playback…

@Plex is there any bug report/issue council system where this can be tracked for a fix?
