any update… did a guinea pig present themselves? : )
Yep.
The build @sLumpy sent worked for audio only transcoding to a Samsung TV (Tested several different files with different audio codecs that required audio transcoding).
So hopefully that means the fix will be included in a future version of PMS.
Oh that sounds promising ! Is video ok?
AFAIK video wasn’t an issue for this specific report, but video was working fine on the test build as well.
Video was never an issue on Samsung TVs - audio cutouts was the primary issue.
That said, it sounds like the test build’s been successful so far.
Fingers crossed enough positive experiences from this test come in such that sLumpy is able to roll a fix into the next patch/update.
Thanks everyone that helped with testing out the fix. We have added the fix to the latest PMS beta release. Go ahead and give that a try.
Thanks a bunch @sLumpy and everyone else who contributed! Cant wait to test it out.
I see same issue even with latest build on my nvidia shield. Audio drop outs randomly though out playback. It’s been happening for about 2 weeks as well.
Is Plex transcoding anything? The Nvidia Shield should be able to direct play nearly everything.
If it’s not transcoding then it’s not the same issue as here.
Can confirm that version 1.27.1.5891 does indeed solve my own issue (and hopefully, by extension OP’s).
@sLumpy - Thank you for finally pushing this through. Please pass on my thanks to the dev team.
I can confirm 1.27.1.5891 fixes the audio cut out for me too (FreeBSD server version).
Good stuff, guys!
In my samsung tv, the audio is still cut, it is a TV 2022 brings operating system of the brand, the audio in AC3 5.1 is cut, and the subtitles do not synchronize, if I disable direct play and direct stream everything works ok. But the server does transcode
PLEX 1.27.0.5897
- Problem still unresolved.
You’re using the wrong version, update to the latest beta version 1.27.1.5891
My bad, thank you, I will test.
Generally speaking, how long does it take for a build/CR go from the beta channel to the official? I’m totally experiencing this issue with a video, but not many.
It seems like there’s a mixed message on Samsung TVs - I have a 2021, so no DTS support, but does that include the inability to pass DTS over ARC down to a sound bar? I feel like i’ve seen conflicting answers on that. Ideally this situation is avoided by simply direct playing, not direct streaming. Plus, TV speakers suck and if this fixes me to Direct Play, then I have two reasons/excuses to buy a sound bar ![]()
I actually have no idea about the soundbars, I looked into it and the soundbar says it suppprts DTS, etc.
I also couldn’t find a clear answer about if it will pass through DTS to the soundbar or not. Didn’t feel like spending a few hundred $ to find out it doesn’t work.
Could always get a shield tv and that would definitely pass the DTS to the soundbar.
Yeah, i have a Shield lying around, I just ultimately want simplicity - a few devices connected to the TV, ideally the smart hub acting as the streaming device, and just an HDMI to a sound bar for all sources (which, AFIAK, is the promise of ARC) but if the TV isn’t just a dumb pass through.
I specifically don’t want a device acting like a receiver and have to deal with input switching and signal detection, etc as it never seems to actually work seamlessly every time I’ve tried.
There’s just always SOMETHING that doesn’t work quite right.
EDIT2: I just realized in this doc, it almost seems like it’s explicit in the notes:
How to use HDMI ARC on Samsung Smart TV | Samsung Caribbean
" Note: DTS is only available on models released before 2018." - seems silly to include that note on a page with ARC if it IS in fact able to pass it through.
awesome : ) !
The latest PLEX public release includes this fix (v1.27.1.5916). Has anyone jumped onto this version to confirm the Samsung issue is… no longer an issue? ![]()
