Server Version#:1.9.6.4429
Player Version#:5.1.2
Opened the player app on my Samsung Q90R TV and was welcomed by updated Plex player app 5.1.2. It immediately told me that it could not connect to the Plex Media Server although nothing else has changed. While the new app boasted on its opening page that I can easily revert to the old version via the user menu, I have not found that option within the menu anywhere. I use a QNAP NAS for my media server and have had no problems until this automatic update. Spent two hours doing the usual logouts/ logins, restarting uninstalling/reinstalling, all to no avail. Everything points (obviously) to the new player 5.1.2. Please can someone help me? Many thanks to one and all.
I. have the exact same problem. Samsung TV upgraded and I can no longer access my media server. I upgraded my media server (it’s running in docker on a laptop) and still no luck. Can access it fine and play media from the web UI from a separate laptop, so the server is working as expected - the issue is with the app.
Yes, I could connect to server as usual with iPad and computer, so definitely the Samsung player update.
Samsung player update as well. You need to leave early access.
Top left click your account > Leave Early Access > Something is broken (Come here and moan) > Reloads Plex and the world is once again sane.
Thank you MarkH, you have dug me out of a hole. Reconnected to Plex media server instantly. Are we talking bug in latest Samsung App here?
I believe so yes. I spent an hour troubleshooting it over the phone tonight with a family member after exhausting all other possibilities. They reconnected to the remote server quickly as well. This is after I’ve been jumping in and out of early access for the past 3 or so days seeing if the Samsung app worked for me. It doesn’t btw. Not even locally. I’m running Plex server 1.20.* on Windows Server 2019 and the latest version of the Samsung app.
Glad yours got sorted quickly.
Well your reply saved me undoubtedly hours of frustration, so, family aside, you made a difference, and that’s something most people can’t say. Truth be told, I’ve had a drink so I’ll leave. It that. Thanks again,
I had similar. Turns out within advanced settings of player on Samsung you need to change Allow Insecure connections and Prefer insecure connections to ALWAYS to get it to work
Thanks for the info, @satzzz. I’ll give that a try when I’m forced to update. Is there much worth having in the new release that should encourage me to update now?
Nothing at all. In fact there’s one or two things missing.
For one there’s no 3 dots next to Home so you can’t change the layout to your home screen as far as new TV/ movies added etc
Good to know, thanks.
Thanks @MarkH for the fix!
I am having the same problem.
Can’t acess media server via Samsung smarttv.
I can acess the same wirelless network with android or another laptop, without any problem.
I am not understanding what i have to do to get it back.
Please help and thank you in advance.
