Currently, pressing record while watching live TV through the DVR system only records from that moment on, despite the video cache having much more of the show or movie. For example, if I start watching a show, and I decide to record it 10 minutes into the program, the DVR should save the first 10 minutes in the recording. This is the way most cable box DVRs operate, and would be a great addition to the functionality.
One method of achieving this could be to join all of the .ts files in ‘AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Cache\Transcode\Sessions’ when recording is activated (after excluding .ts files written before the current program started airing). Another way to go about this would be to start recording every time a channel is played, but delete the recording unless the record button is pressed during playback.
There’s already an existing feature suggestion thread discussing an option to add what’s available in your cache from watching live tv when you opt to record it instead (vs. only recording from that moment of time). I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.
