Say it isn't so - Compatibility issues with Synology

First time poster so “haters” move on.

I’m new to the NAS and it was something I really wanted as my storage was all over the place, flash drives, SSD, multiple different types of hard drives and dvds. I dare say if I keep digging there should be an audio tape from programming a TI994A.

Of course I went Plex, and of course I ordered the lifetime. I checked compatibility saw DS418 and got two 8TB WD and was starting to organize movies, documentaries, tv series, music…a giant pain but long term would be worth it. The project got waylaid due to family health issues and I’m just now getting back to what I was hoping would be a labor of love.

Of course, the DS418 is not compatible with Plex. DS418J, DS418Play, and I’m sure there is a DS418 that I am missing.

My question has there been or is planned on addressing this. I’ve found Emby is compatible but I want PLEX. So do I try to sell this and take a major hit, pray that there is a workaround, or trade it in to Amazon.

Haters, I take full responsibility as I have yet to read a user manual. I just never thought that there would be different versions of the same model number. Is it a firmware issue? Ok, enough crying if anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks.

You should have searched the forums for “DS418”. There’s some fun information out there. Also, @ChuckPa seems to be the Synology god on these forums. You’ll want to pay attention to his posts. I don’t even have a NAS and I’ve learned a lot from them.
