I am new to Plex but set up a server on my new 2019 NVIDIA Shield Pro. I ripped some DVD’s that I own and uploaded them to the 5 TB USB drive attached to my Shield. I also uploaded some photos which show up just fine.
I own the DVD collection of Jonny Quest and converted all of the episodes to MKV files. I also ripped a movie and that works fine.
I made a Jonny Quest folder under TV Shows but scanning TV Shows never brings anything up. I renamed the folder TV_Shows wondering if that would make a difference and it didn’t. I pointed the directory to both TV Shows and even the subdirectory Jonny Quest with no luck.
I then copied one of the episodes from the Jonny Quest folder to the Movies folder and re-scanned the Movies folder and it shows up and plays just fine.
What am I missing here? I searched for the answer but everything I found was 5+ years old.
Structure and naming should be like this (where your Plex library is pointing at TV Shows):
TV Shows
Jonny Quest (1986)
Season 01
Jonny Quest (1986) - s01e01 - Peril of the Reptilian.mkv
Jonny Quest (1986) - s01e02.mkv
Jonny Quest (1986) - s01e03.mkv
...
Jonny Quest (1986) - s01e26.mkv
Everything after the sXXeYY (season XX, episode YY) pattern is optional. Some users like to have the episode titles in their file names. Plex doesn’t need it.
Considering there’s 3 versions, of that show (1964 original, 1986 reboot, 1993 “The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest”), you should definitely include the year in the folder and file names to help Plex not to pick the wrong version.
