Scanner option missing on Library of type 'TV Shows' on Windows Plex

I am a long time plex user and have two Plex servers that I run:

  1. Version 1.43.0.10492 - Linux/Ubuntu
  2. Version 1.43.0.10492 - Windows

I have two libraries (one on each server) created with type ‘TV Shows’ and I use them to store tv recordings from my live tuner HDHomeruns. I’ve noticed that Plex treats recordings differently between my two servers so I investigated the advanced settings on both TV Show libraries. I’m missing the scanner setting on the windows plex server TV Show library. Can anyone tell me what I’m missing? I’ll include photos…

Ubuntu TV Show library:

Windows TV Shows library

In the Windows server’s PMS settings, navigate to:

Settings → Library [Show Advanced]

Ensure the following setting is enabled:

By default on new installations (I’m not sure the exact version where this setting was added) it defaults to be disabled. If it’s disabled, no Scanner setting will be shown (it defaults to Plex TV Series anyway).

Thank you very much… That was it!

You’re welcome!

Don’t enable that setting. Don’t use any of the legacy agents, when setting up a new library. They are invisible by default for a good reason: they won’t be available for much longer.

Otto, when i record tv shows with my HDHomerun, Plex will not detect the recording and add it to my library without that scanner. I’m recording cartoons (specifically Looney Tunes) on the MeTV channel. What would you suggest me to do or what settings to use?

Do you use Plex as recorder software?
Or do you add the files which were recorded with a different DVR software?

Yes… Use Plex with HDHomerun (FLEX 4K) to record OTA tv shows in the “Live TV & DVR” section (installed on a Windows 11 computer), then post process it with MCEBuddy… Put it in a folder… As stated earlier, the Plex library associated to those recordings doesn’t see and pull in Looney Tunes recordings from MeTV channel… All this implies that I do in fact own the Plex Pass.

I actually run two Plex servers (one windows 11 and one Ubuntu) and have HDHomeruns on both for different channels as I have two homes in different parts of the state… Also have two has backups in case internet is down, or reception is poor (CBS in Cleveland, I’m looking at you).

Thanks for the help Otto.
