Hello everyone,
I just started using Plex and it was working just fine, at first.
Today, though, I realized it does no longer find new content when it scans the library, nor refreshes metadata. I found out about this with a tv show -I was adding further seasons- but then I tested the movie folder and it is exactly the same.
Since I am still new to Plex I thought that, maybe, I made some mistake with the configuration, but Local Media Assets is enabled and I removed the support for IPv6 (on another thread, it seemed to solve the problem).
Is there something else I should check?
Hi,
I have a similar problem.
also new to flex, but already frustrated. A complete useless message telling me that I must be lost, since nothing can be found.
I know that in my directory, added to the library, are enough tv-shows to be watched.
So, maybe somebody, that ran in the same error, and discovered what could be done about it, can give some advice?
Thanks.
Hi Nydave69,
To answer your question:
It is all in the x264 format, and they are
*.MKV (eg blindspot.s01e01.mkv) .MP (eg The.Resident.S03E01.mp4)
*.AVI (eg Injustice.S01E01.avi)
So me, being a rookie at this, would have thought that at least one format would be visible.
What did I do sofar:
Created a Plex account online, using my Google credentials
Downloaded and installed the Desktop app.
next I went to my “TV” directory, and added a single TV series to Plex.
And instead of telling me, you may now watch the series on your tv (or whatever a successful upload presents on the screen) it told me that must be lost…
Sorry my bad… I meant the file naming structure,
Plex uses that structure to figure out what the movie/show is to gather the metadata.
One thing that I would add to every file is the year…
So many remakes and reboots of movies and shows.

One thing that I would point out is at the top of the forum page header it has DOC…
That should read Support DOCs… Very useful information going forward…
As you can see for yourself.
So, I will roll up my sleeves and start renaming.
Corona is a ■■■■■, silly lock-down , even in the Netherlands.
as a result, I got bored. And then… magically there were a number of TV series on my hard disk
thanks for you assistance. I will start with reading the support Docs.

As the original poster of this thread, I still have this issue, with both tv -shows and movies.
As far as tv-shows are concerned, I did already check the “Naming and Organizing Your TV Show Files” guide, and I am already following this:
For some reason, everything works again, but I have no idea whatsoever why.
I know I am nitpicking, but is there any way to let Plex “read” the title of an episode instead of a generic “Episode 1”? I also have .nfo files for each episode.
Penelope,
Sorry for hijacking your post.
As for the movies, I created a silly workaround, and so far it works, I placed in front of all the movie titles “S01E01”
Eg: (2019) (S01E01) Frozen II.mkv
Most likely not the most efficient way, but effective
Rgrds
Ps: and yes, I fully agree with your last comment: "is there any way to let Plex “read” the title of an episode instead of a generic “Episode 1”"
Thank you for your suggestion @kees_bakker, that’s ok.
Unfortunately though, I am again experiencing the aforementioned issue, and tv-shows files are appropriately named (for instance: TV-Show Title - S01E01 - Episode Title).
For movies, two days ago the way the file itself is named did not have any impact on Plex ability to recognize it… I have no idea why it is suddenly happening.
I’m adding the logs. Plex Media Server Logs_2020-05-26_13-14-45.zip (5.0 MB)
EDIT: Silly me, I finally understood what is happening: since I was adding content to the HDD, it was not connected to the server (i.e. Nvidia Shield), therefore it was not possible to update the library. I completely forgot that the HDD was not connected. My apologies!
Still, does someone know why Plex successfully updates episode titles only for certain tv-shows (while the files are all named following the same criteria)?
