Server Version#: 1.19.4.2935 on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
Player Version#: 4.22.3
I don’t know if this relates to a bug with the current build 1.19.4.2935 which I have only recently installed but newly added TV shows are not being recognised by Plex and added to the library. The programs are some I have recently downloaded from BBC iPlayer using get_iplayer and are all in mp4 format. Nothing else has changed on the server or the way I name and arrange the files. they are all named to the Plex format and in separate folders with the TV show name eg:-
The Salisbury Poisonings/The Salisbury Poisonings S01E01.mp4
The Salisbury Poisonings S01E02.mp4
The Salisbury Poisonings S01E03.mp4
and
I May Destroy You/I May Destroy You S01E01 - Eyes Eyes Eyes Eyes.mp4
I May Destroy You S01E02 - Someone Is Lying.mp4
I have tried manually refreshing the library using “Scan Library Files” option within the web player but they are still not added.
What is strange is that a couple of films I have added to the Movies library have successfully been scanned and the metadata downloaded and so has another TV series The Heights also downloaded by get_iplayer so I don’t know whats going on. Is there anything else I should try? I could roll back to the previous PMS build but where is the executable stored when you download a new build?
I have never had any issues before with files being recognised and added to the library. I have had the occasional series where the metadata has not matched and the cover empty but that’s normally been an easy fix with Un-Match and rematch Metadata.
The files play locally on the Linux machine used to download them and also appear in Windows explorer and play on the Windows 7 based server using Windows Media Player
Then you may want to demote LMA for Shows and Movies (all tabs) so Plex will stop preferring embedded and bogus Title Fields in your MP4 files - over any file names and missing structure elements you may have - or not have:
There’s nothing preventing the matching of this one that I can see - in this test:
A TV Show Library Folder\ <---TV Show Library 'Add Folders' aimed here - ONLY
....The Salisbury Poisonings\
........Season 01\
.............The Salisbury Poisonings - S01E01.mp4
.............The Salisbury Poisonings - S01E02.mp4
.............The Salisbury Poisonings - S01E03.mp4
With the exception of a Season 1 sub folder I thought my file naming complied with the Plex convention. When I have more than one season I do create season folders but for one offs I have just put them in the TV Program folder. This has worked flawlessly for many years so I am having trouble understanding what has recently changed to stop Plex finding the newly added programs.
I can understand if the metadata did not match as some MP4s contain additional data in the file, but I always strip this out.
I will try creating a season folder and see if this works. I will also try demoting LMA to see if that helps.
Thanks again for you help

If you do everything by the numbers and still no joy - the log files should lead us to the answer - and if necessary I’ll call in somebody to read them…lol
Do this now - just in case:
Server/Settings/General:
Disable Verbose
Enable Debug
so they’ll show the things you’ve been doing and any failure points along the way…
I do the same thing…if it’s just one season of a show and that’s it. I don’t separate season folders I just drop the episodes in the main (tv show name) folder and I’ve never had problems doing it this way. Another thing I’ve always wondered…should it be
Season 01
Season 02
Season 03 etc
OR
From what I’m seeing, TheTVDB api is likely having an issue. Try to do a “Fix Match” searching against “TheTVDB” agent, it will come up with blank results.
I use Filebot and it follows the instructions meticulously… it uses a Season folder for everything and ‘Season XX’ - unless it’s ‘Season XXXX’, then it does that. It uses the Exact Name TVDB/TMDB uses - Exactly… and I get about 99.9975645% accuracy.
Key word, “Exactly”. If you don’t want issues now or in future. This, it did work or has always worked before. But does not now, is such a familiar topic in the forums. I want to cry now…
Name it exactly, will only give you peace of mind and a well functioning Plex media collection.
OK So i’m tearing my hair out over this issue. Ive done all the steps suggested by JuiceWSA including Plex compliant file naming convention, the “Plex Dance” and anything else I can find including downloading the files again. The originals were downsized using Handbrake to 720p 30fps instead of the BBC standard 720p 50fps to reduce space usage so I swapped the modified files with the original downloaded 50fps filed. I do this on all files downloaded using get_iplayer and never had issues before. I have made some progress in that I deleted the directory containing I May Destroy You and then added it back after emptying the trash and running the “Plex Dance”. It then appeared in the library for the first time, however I still cannot get The Salisbury Poisonings to display in the TV Show library see below assuming it should be next to Salamander?
I have tested the files in both VLC media Player on the Linux box where they were downloaded and also using Windows media player on the Windows 7 PMS Server and they play correctly. I have also checked the permissions on the files and they are Read Write for Everyone. I am therefore totally stumped what to do now.

Go now:
Server/Settings/General:
Disable Verbose
Enable Debug
Then clear the agent caches - if you haven’t already.
With the exception of ONE dash in each file name, those and the structures are pretty much perfect. It would be rather ‘picky’ of Plex to refuse to cooperate in this case, but… if it was me ('cause this stuff makes me crazy):
The Salisbury Poisonings - S01E01.mp4
Then, I’d take another look at Server/Agents and make sure LMA is enabled, but demoted for every tab under Shows and Movies - INCLUDING - TMDB in Shows:
