Scanning TV Shows erased my library

Went to scan just my tv shows to add on episode in and it rescanned my tv shows like I was scanning them all for the first time. Anything custom is gone. All episodes are showing unwatched with most had shown as being watch. Now I am afraid to scan my movies.

I did do the the most recent server update for Mac for plex pass users yesterday.

Is the folder set for you library still the same? Do you have the logs still. specfically the plex media scanner.log and the plex media server.log from when this happened? (the numbers at end of log names are appended as they get older. the one without number being the newest, number 5 is the oldest)

Do you have your server set to make database back ups? info on how to restore can be found here https://support.plex.tv/articles/202485658-restore-a-database-backed-up-via-scheduled-tasks/

As since I have your attention can you have a plex employee look into another thread that many having issues with live tv on apple devices.

Thank You

I don’t see anything in logs that show removing items. Did you try to restore the DB?

( also side note can you please turn off Verbose logging. it generally has too much detail to sift through that is not helpful )

My issue has somehow resolved it self. But can you please adress the thread I linked to above about live tv. It has been an issue since September 20th and no Plex employee acknowledging it or adress it at all. Please have someone reply to the tread. Thank You.

Ok I spoke to soon. The issue happened again. Plex Media Server Logs_2018-11-30_11-39-41.zip (5.7 MB)

Is there a way to installed the release before Nov 23.

Can you please turn off Verbose logging. It is rarely needed and is like throwing hay on the pile of needles being searched though.

I can’t tell if you have one tv library pointed at two different folders or two different TV libraries. one with media on a seagate drive and another on a WD mybook. are they the same library or are two different libraries and both are now empty?

An employee did reply to that thread on Oct 5 asking for Apple TV log (not server logs). I see one person provided them a few days later which he must have missed. If you can provide current apple tv logs in that thread it would be helpful. I will poke him to look at that thread again.

I did turn off verbose logging.

The seagate drive is my main library and the wd mybook is my recorded liv tv shows. The issue is with my main library. it is not physically deleting my shows. But when scanning to ad a new episode it scanning the library as if it never scanned it before.

Did you hit save after toggling it? I see lots of verbose logging in the most recent plex media server.log file

so everything in the library disappears, then starts appearing again as it is scanned in?

Yes it then starts the reapear.

Yes I hit save.

Do you have “automatically empty trash” enabled?

Is the seagate a network or USB drive?

USB and auto trash.

What i am a bit confused about here is that you said the watch state is being reverted to unwatched. However the watched state is independent of scanning. Meaning the server knows I watched Iron Man regardless if I deleted Iron Man files and it removes from library. If i add it again a year later it will still know i watched it.

I am assuming your PMS folder in application suport is still in the same default place. This is not a definitive test but would you mind checking for DB corruption. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201100678-repair-a-corrupt-database/
