Scheduled recordings, failed to record

Happy Thanksgiving to those in the USA.

So, just before leaving for the Thanksgiving dinner at the In-Laws, I set two things to record while we were away. (I may have set them up the night before, I’m not 100% sure)
We return home this evening, I turn on the TV on Roku, and no Dog Show, no Thanksgiving Parade showing as available…

I go to the Plex Server: Recording Schedule, and see the two items listed, with 'New" next to them (side question: why do they say ‘new’, what does ‘new’ mean? New what?)

I’m very new to Plex, so I’ve been doing setting all sorts of different recordings for testing purposes.

For these two shows, can some tell, from the logs, why they both show failed to record?:

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
&
The National Dog Show

thank you for your time,
SJ

New indicates the show is marked in the program guide as a New Airing. This is used when you have shows setup to record that you identify you only want “New Airings” as you showed for the Macy’s Parade and Dog Show recordings. If the show was not marked as “New” in the Program Guide it would not have been recorded since you specified “New Airings Only.”

I am wondering if you have issues outside of Plex going on with the machine. I see entries in your logs that Internet Connectivity was lost and regained a couple of times in the logs around 7:30 and again at 10:48. I also saw entries where it appeared both HDHR devices were no longer seen and then reappeared and Plex tried to rediscover the lineup available on each. I also see where it appears Plex may not have had write access to the TV Show location you have specified with numerous entries as shown below:
Nov 23, 2017 07:19:53.134 [5376] DEBUG - DVR:Grabber: Saving recording to \vmhost1\PLEX1_MEDIA\MOVIES.grab\c39f65a3a9b57f2af4563fdc2a85178bac4d643c
Nov 23, 2017 07:19:53.071 [5376] ERROR - DVR:Grabber: No write permission.

I would suggest writing to local storage for recordings and then using some sort of post processing to move completed recordings to your network storage. As simple windows bat file that is setup in Task Scheduler to run every 30 minutes could even take care of moving recordings. I use a similar process to move some recordings to my Dropbox account so they are accessible using my Plex Cloud server. One line similar to below moves the files for me:

robocopy /MOVE /S “C:\Recorded TV” “\vmhost1\PLEX1_MEDIA\TV_Shows”

Hello John,
thank you for your reply.

Plex is running in a Hyper-V Client

**\vmhost1\PLEX1_MEDIA **is a shared folder residing on the Hyper-V Host (it’s an eSata Connected Drive)

I just mapped D: to \vmhost1\PLEX1_MEDIA on the Hyper-V Client where the Plex Server is running.

We’ll see if that makes any difference.

Strange thing is, some things are recording just fine, others or not. I would think it would be all or none.

If that doesn’t work, I’ll look at creating another Virtual Disk for this VM and record to it, rather than a shared folder as I’m doing now.
