SDTV with RasPlex

Hello!

I’m looking for some guidance on how to set up two Raspberry Pis running RasPlex on two standard def TVs so that they are both available at the same time. A little background first:

I originally set up one Pi to run in the Den and it worked fine. It connected wirelessly and came up in the iOS app as a client. I then cloned it’s SDcard using “win32imager” (unsure of the exact name) and the setup was easy on the Kitchen set. All I had to do was enter the wireless information and connect to Plex.

The problem is that I can’t get them to both show up in the client list in iOS. I have to unplug the Den Pi to get the Kitchen Pi workin and vice versa. My hunch is that it has something to do with cloning because they both started playing the same video once when both connected. They don’t have the same IP and are connected to the same AP on the same network via dynamic DHCP. I have tried both the PIN method and manual setup to connect to Plex.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I think your problem is that each RPi will identify itself by the same ‘name’, in all communications with your PMS server and with myPlex.

There’s a player device name string found in the submenu entry:
Preferences > System > Services > 'Device Name’

I suggest you edit this string, so that each RPi gets a unique name.

I’m not sure if this will fix your problem entirely, but it’s something you should do in any case.

Thank you for the reply. I did change each Pi's name to match their respective locations. So the Pi in the kitchen is "Kitchen", etc. In fact, I did this in Services and I also gave them each a unique network name. I tried static IP's, dynamic IP's, different access points, etc. Maybe the next thing to try is a wired connection.

I'm wondering if there is another identifier in RasPlex that is tied to the install. Maybe that identifier was cloned along with everything else and Plex is getting confused. It can't be a 5 client limitation either, could it? On the same network, I also run two Chromecasts and one AppleTV that always show up.

So I ended up reformatting the sd cards while preserving the config.txt file with my overclock info and SDTV switches. After some adjustments to the download settings on each Pi, I’m in business.

I do think the cloning process didn’t work because of some hardware identifier that gets imbedded. Unsure of this, however.
