I just searched for a word that only exists in a movie description in my library, and got nothing, so I think the search doesn’t include descriptions.
There used to be a full search result page, but it went away when they implemented the new search feature a few months ago. Even then, it didn’t show the complete results. It was limited to 30 of each media type (30 movies, 30 albums, etc.).
They assured us that the full page will be coming back, but Plex can be glacially slow in fulfilling such promises.
Say you are searching for a person/actor, will the full page allow to see all the movies and shows that actor plays in across all collections?
In the current setup, you have to pick one collection in the dropdown menu. I’d love to see ALL the assets that actor plays in regardless of which collection.
Example / desired result: Search “Theo James” See full page results with list of assets: – assets from “Eng collection”: Divergent, Allegiant, etc. – assets from “Fr collection”: Archive, etc. – assets from “Eng TV shows”: Sanditon, etc
The new full search page was added a few days ago, in Plex Web build 4.86.1. I don’t have enough movies/TV to try out your question, but you should be able to now.
I just tried it. Searching Seth Rogan. It has some issues.
The first result displays the “Shows” he is in that I own, which are both animated shows. It does not use the library’s actual name here, as my animated shows library is actually called “Animated Shows”, not “Shows”. So Plex appears to select the first library of that “type” with any results and calls it “Shows”.
Next, it lists the movies he is in. It is called “Movies”, but it does not list any of the animated movies I have in my “Animated Movies” folder. Similar to Shows, it simply picked the first library of that type and listed only movies he is in of that type IN ONLY THAT LIBRARY. This results in not showing the animated movies he does the voice work for. To view these, I must click his portrait (see next paragraph).
Finally, the last result for his name is his profile, but clicking it goes to only one of my 4 libraries that contain him (movies). It shows a [+3] button next to my server though, that when clicked shows a list of all my libraries that contain his stuff (movies, animated movies, animated shows, and talk shows (was likely interviewed by Trevor Noah on the daily show)). It is a minimal list, with no icons, and no count of how many items are in each library. I must click the specific option, and it then takes me TO that library, with a filter for his name.
Thus, the only way for me to see the animated movies he is in, I must ignore every other result in this page, click the [+3] button, choose his animated movies folder, and be taken to that library. Very annoying.
I see different results filtering by actor’s name in one library (Amanda Seyfried = 6 results) vs using the main search (Amanda Seyfried = only 1 result)
