Searching for a simple plex client for windows

Hi,

using plex for long time now (with samsung tv) and just got my wife to using it too. So I bought a Plex Pass and made her an own user for keeping track of her own watched files. She almost only watches from her PC. But I can’t find a simple client for windows to watch the movies. What I tried:

  • Play in Browser / Chrome App -> some files get transcoded
  • Windows 10 Store app -> some files get also transcoded; no audio control with mousewheel
  • Home Theatre / OpenPHT -> no real mouse support - just bad usability for mouse control
  • new Plex Media Player for Windows -> also bad mouse control (no seeking with mouse, no volume control with mouse)

So now I’m lost - I can’t believe that there is no player out there that is a simple desktop app that works with proper mouse control and doesn’t need transcoding for some files. Not that the server isn’t powerful enough - but it’s a waste of power and the seeking gets laggy also.

Well I think I found a solution. A Firefox Plugin named Crumby Plex to VLC (https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/crumby-plex-to-vlc/). That way she can open the movie in VLC over the web-ui in firefox. She needs to mark the movie as watched by hand - but it’s the best solution I got.
If someone has a better idea, just let me know.

Hm I thought it would work … but the addon needs to see the download button (to get the video url). But the download-button isn’t available for managed users or friends. So I’m stuck again.
