There’s two different bugs referenced in this topic. One was widespread and one is smaller issue.
The first bug was reported and mostly fixed by Plex in the current media server version, but I later found some backgrounds, even after the fix, still were using the wrong background so I reported a 2nd issue as a follow up in this same thread since it was similar and related.
The first bug was a code issue where a show would use the default\provider show background for season background when a different show background was selected - this impacted all titles. You wouldn’t really notice it unless you picked a different show background manually; you’d see the wrong background in the WebUI for the season detail (see initial screenshots in first post) and you’d also see a wrong background on Continue Watching on media devices like Roku (I didn’t grab shots of that). This even impacted folks who use local assets for their artwork. This is the bug Plex fixed initially.
Though some shows didn’t fix until you ran the refresh manually at library level to force them. Be sure you’ve done that if you’re on the 1.43 release.
I also had to re-move and re-add like 2 shows that still wouldn’t fix but maybe those shows were part of the 2nd bug we hadn’t identified yet.
The 2nd bug seems to be related to a maintenance routine causing a lock or bad mapping on artwork and presents similarly to the original bug but less widespread (only 1 season in MLP and 1 season in Helluva Boss for me).
I don’t know if removing\re-adding would fix it; probably would if you did plex dance on it since it’d reset those references.
You can follow the steps Atomatth tested to fix it manually (downgrade, refresh metadata for show, upgrade, refresh) or you can wait for the bug fix. I’m waiting for the bug fix as it’s only impacting one or two seasons for me and I’m not actively watching them so don’t really see the wrong backgrounds in my day-to-day use.
Maybe if you have an example from a specific show you’re seeing an issue as an example that might help with discussion or clarification for you. @Atomatth might be able to give you better explanation or detail if mine aren’t clicking for you.
