Season specific Backgrounds loading wrong

I still see an issue where a show’s background image displays inaccurately on the home screen in that the first image from the gallery is used rather than the one I selected. Does this have a separate issue/fix?

It seems there were two bugs - essentially.

One they fixed and is in the recent release (or latest available beta if you’re on QNAP). This seems to fix it most of the time.

I had to remove\re-add a couple shows to get it fixed which might be more related to another bug that seemed to have cropped up. That’s a secondary issue that Atomatth tracked down and submitted for additional bug fix. They also mention a fix you can do now while we wait for the bug to be sorted but my guess is that bug fix will be low priority but will get fixed eventually.

I thought the bug I’m still seeing is what you initially reported here – is that supposed to be fixed? I’d rather avoid re-adding shows one by one if I can

There’s two different bugs referenced in this topic. One was widespread and one is smaller issue.

The first bug was reported and mostly fixed by Plex in the current media server version, but I later found some backgrounds, even after the fix, still were using the wrong background so I reported a 2nd issue as a follow up in this same thread since it was similar and related.

The first bug was a code issue where a show would use the default\provider show background for season background when a different show background was selected - this impacted all titles. You wouldn’t really notice it unless you picked a different show background manually; you’d see the wrong background in the WebUI for the season detail (see initial screenshots in first post) and you’d also see a wrong background on Continue Watching on media devices like Roku (I didn’t grab shots of that). This even impacted folks who use local assets for their artwork. This is the bug Plex fixed initially.

Though some shows didn’t fix until you ran the refresh manually at library level to force them. Be sure you’ve done that if you’re on the 1.43 release.

I also had to re-move and re-add like 2 shows that still wouldn’t fix but maybe those shows were part of the 2nd bug we hadn’t identified yet.

The 2nd bug seems to be related to a maintenance routine causing a lock or bad mapping on artwork and presents similarly to the original bug but less widespread (only 1 season in MLP and 1 season in Helluva Boss for me).
I don’t know if removing\re-adding would fix it; probably would if you did plex dance on it since it’d reset those references.

You can follow the steps Atomatth tested to fix it manually (downgrade, refresh metadata for show, upgrade, refresh) or you can wait for the bug fix. I’m waiting for the bug fix as it’s only impacting one or two seasons for me and I’m not actively watching them so don’t really see the wrong backgrounds in my day-to-day use.

Maybe if you have an example from a specific show you’re seeing an issue as an example that might help with discussion or clarification for you. @Atomatth might be able to give you better explanation or detail if mine aren’t clicking for you.

@Insomnic_1 has the gist of it. Also without examples to know what you’re referring to it difficult to understand what’s going on. Expected experience vs actual.

There was one issue that was resolved and another that was found after the first was resolved that had very specific criteria to cause the issue.

I can definitely provide examples, but it’s the same issue that’s been discussed.

To start, the main issue has always been on the Continue Watching section of the home screen (on Apple TV, regular and beta apps) – when I go into a show’s page, I see the background that I selected.

I did a little more prodding and it seems to be happening with less shows, but still affects some. For example, I’m currently on season 8 of Smallville, which uses the first background from the gallery rather than the one I selected:

While troubleshooting this, I also noticed that only season 8 shows the wrong background within the show’s page, even though the season doesn’t have its own background, while every other season respects the background I selected for the show.

Almost the same thing happens with the show Superstore, with the only difference that every season uses the wrong background and it only uses the background I selected on the main show page.

I’m running PMS 1.43.0.10492 and have refreshed the shows’ metadata.

This seems like the 2nd bug with a fix that is still in progress.

The first bug impacted all seasons in a show and the 2nd bug seems to impact individual seasons.
