I have a extensive library or tv shows movies even porn, My question is I have everything on a single machine. I wanna run a second library completely separate from my TV movies setup. Just log in to a different server possibly and its my adult stuff. How do I do this in detail?
I just don’t wanna create a bunch of separate folders of porn mixed in with my regular stuff and block them out. I want a separate server for myself only or a second library which then breaks down the folders,
Options in detail any help would be appreciated, Wanna get this cured before i just jump ship and look for other options besides plex
Plex support multiple libraries of any media kind within the same server… but you can also have a separate server running on a different machine, linked to your existing account if you like that better.
Example 1: 1 server, multiple libraries
Server 1
Movie Library 1: "Movies"
Movie Library 2: "Kids Movies"
Movie Library 3: "Adult Movies"
Example 2: 2 servers
Server 1
Movie Library 1: "Movies"
Movie Library 2: "Kids Movies"
Server 2
Movie Library 3: "Adult Movies"
With the new UNO user interface, the libraries will show in your main navigation with their respective name and the server they’re hosted on. If you share your content with others, you can share individual libraries with each friend / plex home users (no matter which of the above options you use).
If you use your main account e.g. on a shared TV you might want to consider to create a home user for that tv to avoid mixing up content.
Ok I grasp what your saying but this does not completely separate adult to regular, I think if anything it creates a headache. Say Like myself most porn is not movies anymore the 80-90’s are over. So its single scenes with whatever star.
those are then broken up in names of the actress. Like i do my tv shows. Each is separated.
The way you listed just throws all stuff together it doesn’t give me the options to add sub folders for each folder I have in porn.
I have a second folder server but that server will not access the hard drive on another machine on plex it doesn’t show up. So I’m outta options or how do I get the second server to show all hard drives on another machine? I have one machine running all my McIntosh labs home theater equipment the hard drives are 70tb total. Breaking them down and moving one to a separate machine isn’t a option
You can still display the libraries in folder mode or combine your clips in collections.
Again… this is completely independent from having those libraries on a single server or distributed across multiple machines.
If I remember correctly, there’s even a 3rd party agent for porn (clips or movies). With that you would be able to use the regular library view and could e.g. still filter by actor / genre / …
I don’t know what you mean with “a second folder server”. If you want to access the files from one system on your second machine, you’ll need to publish that folder within your home network and mount/map it on the 2nd machine (depending on what OS you’re using). – that being said… I don’t think you actually need a 2nd machine. Just familiarize with the options Plex is providing to you:
your server can have multiple libraries per media type
each library can be linked to multiple folders (or only 1)
each library can have a different default view – e.g. use the poster wall for your movies and folder view for your super custom collection
you can limit who can access each library – so your kids don’t see your private collection
the logic is to view them as 2 totally separate setups. I recently did this for a different purpose (load balancing). I left all my movies on the old server. I setup a whole new machine and moved all the TV shows to it.
my biggest learning was that I didn’t need to copy anything over. just re-create the new categories; yes i could have copied things over but letting plex re-down everything is way quicker.
after that its just a matter of granting folder access to who ever you want. There is 1 big caveat to keep in mind, the main account always sees all the folders. So the people you want to limit should have there own login, that way you can limit access.
@OttoKerner gave me this great information.
Instead of moving all the plex data, you can setup the server on the new machine.
Create a small test library to see if it works in general.
Then shut down both the original server and the new one (important!)
Then copy the main database file (yes, just one file) from the old to the new machine.
This will transfer the ‘played’ statistics for all your users.
All the metadata need to be fetched again, all the preview thumbnails need to be regenerated.
I then added my new folders to the existing ones waited a week then went back and removed the ones that no longer exist from the old server. all my custom settings were maintained. My library is roughly about 200TB and took less than 2 hours to setup & tweak after installing Plex.
After I read all the post the last three days on adding porn my issue is simply PLEX itself
See I dont want the main account to see all, I wanna a screen to pop up choose which server. One with movies tv shows etc. The second “password protected” Adult content. Seems like this is what plenty of people want after I read all these posts on adding adult material. but the plex machine collects cash and doesn’t listen to the subscribers needs.
OK now I have a little better understand of your end goal…
I don’t work for Plex but business wise once you start connecting and customizing towards porn and or other various content, things could get legally messy very quickly. That industry has its own rules and regulations that is constantly changing. More problematic is that the laws change from state-to-state and country-to-country.
Plex is targeting a more Family friendly section of the world and one that is less of a legal battle. There is zero profit in battling the gov’t & the porn industry.
Well this option I presented doesn’t just go straight to porn. I mean having the option for a separate section with sub folder option is the smart thing to do. Having a separate second server with a password is another. But they make it hard run two computer do this do that. The draw to plex is the easy of use the ease of creating your personalized setup.
Creating a password protected folder and offering a option to use sub folders in it isn’t a legal issue, Its a option you present your customers. That is selling security. What the customer does with it is his choice but they are not listening to the customers. I’m gonna swap services in the weeks to come. Even kodi has better options when it comes to this.
I personally think that starts to move in the direction of an operating system… which is not its initial purpose. I also don’t see that option/logic used in other similar options, [XMBC(Kodi), Elby, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon etc…] they all use profiles to achieve your goal and most will not tie into porn.
Good Luck on finding a solution. If you do find something, please come back and share, I would love to learn of other options out there.
It seems obvious that content should have the option of being locked down or not accessible without a PIN. I guess Plex feel that the initial PIN is that security, however, that means you can’t have auto login switched on without all content being available. Also, the PIN is visible when entering on some devices so kinda defeats the object of being secure!
I set up my own user account, separate to the admin account as I like to leave auto login on and don’t want anyone controlling my system via the admin account. The only problem I’ve had is when accessing content remotely – I have the lifetime pass assigned to the first account I opened (which is the admin account). It seems I can’t access all the features of the admin account via my individual account unless I login as the admin. If I login as admin, my content is out of sync (i.e. where I am up to on each series). I kinda feel the admin account should just be to administer and the Plex pass should be assigned to the user accounts.
If I recall that’s how it was in Emby.
Their Premiere subscription (equivalent to Plex Pass) meant you had an admin login.
Even as that admin I had to create a separate user account for myself and could (optionally) endow admin rights to myself (or any other user).
If I’m understanding your aims correctly.
