Server Version# 1.20.3.3483
My Windows 10 OS had to be reinstalled from scratch so I lost my Plex Server configuration on this computer. I want to add a new server to my Plex application like I had before so I could switch between this server and the server on my living room computer. Before the crash I had it working perfectly now I am at a loss. The one computer I can access has a Plex server “Bob1-PC” which works well, now I would like to set up a second server on this computer in addition called for example “Windows 10 Desktop”. When I set it up before it was a real chore, but with some luck I got it to work. Can you please help? Thanks
Shouldn’t be that complicated
Just make sure you follow the installation guide – after installing the server software and starting it, access that new server locally to complete the installation. Only after you linked it to your account it’ll show up on your existing clients.
After the server is up and running you might need to pin those new libraries to the main navigation of your client apps.
I still cannot set up a second server as I did before. Here is what I have:
. I would like to add a second server on this PC other than Bob-PC which is on my other computer. It must be something easy but it eludes me. Please help. Thanks. You need to access the local Plex Web that came with PMS. https://support.plex.tv/articles/200288666-opening-plex-web-app/
I can access the server that is showing on the living room PC Bob-1 as seen in my screen capture when it is turned on but I want to add a different Plex server on to the program app.
I could discard the Bob-PC setup on both apps because they are not used anymore?
I wonder if I removed Bob -PC server from the Plex app on PC2[the one I am presently using] would I be able to set up a new Plex server on PC2 from scratch?
Incidentally the plex icon is not showing up in the notification area when it is running.
I know what I am asking might seem convoluted but I am in a quandary. Thanks for any help’
Drop that thought for a moment ![]()
In order to get the libraries of both servers to show in your main navigation, Plex needs to understand that both servers belong to you.
Simply installing the server app does not establish that link. To get this done you need to “claim” your 2nd server. You can only claim a new server if you access it through its local IP address.
In your screenshot you have opened Plex using http://app.plex.tv/desktop.
That version of Plex Web is running independent from your actual (physical) server. As described above it has therefore no idea the 2nd / new server also belongs to you and cannot show its libraries.
So… how to fix this?
If you’re on the computer that’s running the 2nd / new Plex Media Server
- Open a browser
- Open http://127.0.0.1:32400/web
- Complete the setup / installation wizard
- Go to
Settings[#1] >[new server name][#2] >General[#3] to confirm the server is signed into your account. If it is, the box #4 in the screenshot below should show your account name – if it’s not yet signed, you’ll see a button to “claim” the server instead (in place of the sign-out button)
If you’re on a different machine inside your home network
- Open a browser
- Open http://[IP address of PC2]:32400/web
- same as above
- same as above
My 127.0.0.1 loopback local host is not connecting so your enclosed link gets me nowhere. How can I fix this?
I tried starting the Internet information server in Windows 10 add/ remove features in the control panel which gets me to their page using localhost but your enclosed link still does not connect to my server
Based on the system tray it appears likely there’s no Plex Media Server running on That system. Have you started the server?
I tried starting the Internet information server in Windows 10 add/ remove features in the control panel which gets me to their page using localhost but your enclosed link still does not connect to my server
I started the program and the web page opens but evidently my server is not running because[http://[IP address of PC2]:32400/web](http://[IP address of PC2]:32400/web)is not connecting as I understand it…How can this be fixed. I have never had this problem:
beforeCheck your Windows firewall to see if port 32400 is open.
I opened port 32400 inbound and outbound TCP in the firewall but still no luck.
Have you checked that Plex Media Server is running?
The Plex web app is running but the 127.0.0.1:xxxxxx url is unreachable.I removed the Internet information server from add/remove features and pinged 127.0.0.1…See enclosed cmd:
What do you mean? If you can’t access the URL, then it’s not running. Also, my question was about Plex Media Server.
That is what is confusing. 127.0.0.1 can be pinged successfully but http://127.0.0.1:32400/web gets me nowhere. The plex app is running on this computer but not my server on this computer. Should I run Plex on the living room Computer which works normally? Thanks for your patience in this matter.
You need to be clearer. What exactly is running?
The image of the web page I see is reproduced in my second post above in this thread with no plex icon running in the notification area.
If you don’t see the Plex icon in the notification area then PMS is not running on that computer. Are you sure you’ve installed PMS on this second computer? Is there a Plex Media Server icon in your programs list?
It is called “plex” in my program group not “plex media server”
