Server Version#: 1.25.4.5468
Player Version#:
Plex now only gives the option for secure network connections “Required” or “Preferred” but no way to Disable them altogether. I was using an old version of OPENpht on an old android box, and disabling secure connections was the only way I could get it to run since the security scripts changed in September 2021. And now with a recent server update, the Disabling option in the pulldown menu is gone, and now my preferred player does not work.
As long as you have your security setting for preferred, clients that don’t support a secured connection should be able to connect insecurely. I don’t know what OpenPHT does but it if has the ability to use an insecure connection (which sounds like it does if it worked with security disabled, it should still be able to connect that way. Can you turn of secured connection in OpenPHT? Regular Plex clients has the option to “Allow insecure connection on the local network”.
Why was the disabled option removed? I saw no mention of that when I updated my software version.
It’s in the release note.
(TLS) Server-side HTTPS connection support is now always enabled for signed-in users; plaintext connections will continue to be supported as well by default
To be clear, this does not remove the ability for clients to connect insecurely, it only removes the ability to turn this off as a whole.
I believe you can also include your device’s IP in the PMS setting to allow unauthenticated access which should give you the same behavior.
