Seeking Assistance

Server Version#:1.23.4.4712-6000
Player Version#:4.57.4

Well, strange issues, after working now for nearly a year with none.

  • I am on a Synology DS720. I have the latest server version installed.
  • I only use plex to serve media across my LAN (no access from Internet)
  • When I launch plex web from the server it seems to have no idea that there is a plex server on my network (it tells me to Get Plex Media server; http://192.168.1.2:32400/web/index.html#!/get-plex-media-server
  • I know things were working a month ago. I became aware that clients were not recognizing the server about 2 weeks ago. I have given it some thought but, I do not know what was upgraded or changed that led to the current situation.
  • When I go into the Synology drive, locate the server package and click ‘open’, it launches the Plex Web app.
  • I enter my pin and then I get a screen that tells me I have no media and that I should get the Plex media server; http://192.168.1.2:32400/web/index.html#!/get-plex-media-server
  • One oddity did occur as I tried to resolve this. I rolled back my server version to the version Synology recognizes in the latest version of DSM 6 (1.18.5.2309-f5213a2338). When I did this, I could then see my media in plex web launched from the server; but when I launched the local Plex app on the the same desktop where I was working, it could not see the server. In the process of debugging the problem I eventually went forward again on my version on the server, and then once again went back to the older version recognized by Synology; but this time I could no longer see my local media in Plex Web on the server - and I have not been able to see it ever since. It just says “Get Plex Media Server”.

It’s as if I can’t reach port 32400 from my desktop or there is nothing listening at that port. I have tried from different machines and get same result. So if there is an access issue it would likely be server-side as I am using not only Windows clients, but also MacOS; so truly disparate clients.

This NAS is primarily a TimeMachine backup, Plex Server, and file server. The TimeMachine service and file serving both are working fine (so server is generally available on the network). It is only Plex with which I am having trouble (or so it would seem).,

I truly am at a loss. If any suggestions, would really appreciate it. Once I can get the server working again I may have a problem with clients, but not sure. But focus now is just getting server functioning such that when I launch plex web on server it recognizes there is a server there and sees my media again.

The log attached was a clean recording of the launch of my plex server a few moments ago. I can see no issues in it, but I (obviously) am no plex expert.
