So I have yugioh on my plex server (both english and in japanese) and for some reason they both listed under the same show and there are more episodes then usual under each season. I have both in the same folder and then seperated in folders for english and japanese
Yugioh Duel Monsters --> English --> Seasons
–> Japanese --> Seasons
The way I do it for the few shows I have in two languages that I do not need subs for is to have separate libraries.
I have my regular libraries then I have a German library and a French library. The German and French libraries only contain three or four shows each.
If I had a better grasp of Japanese or Italian they would get separate libraries as well as I have several shows from each language but I need subs for those so I just group them with my regular shows (English).
It should be noted that I have second dubbed versions of some of my foreign language shows but I generally prefer watching in the original language with subs. The dubbing is rarely any good at all.
just put them in separate folders. like i described, and you will be able to have them separated. (things in brackets are ignored) shows are based on the folder they are in. if you put them in the same show folder then plex will consider them the same show and why you are seeing what you are seeing
If the shows are in sync / have the exact same episode length, you could remux them to get 1 show with both language audio tracks… (just to throw in a challenge)
you can use e.g. MKVToolNix… it has a component called “Multiplexer” which allows creating 1 output file from multiple sources and selecting which tracks to make it into the output.
MKVToolNix also can be used to merge or split video files (e.g. if you have multiple files representing a single episode or multiple episodes merged in a single file).
If all you want to do is remuxing the container and its content, there’s also other apps you can use. On a Mac there’s e.g. Subler – I haven’t checked many of the others yet.
I would put them in separate folders. You cant split them apart unless you do. after splitting apart just edit name in metadata so you can tell the two apart (add the language or whatever to name)
for files you have that span 2 episodes if you do not want to cut into two files the only thing you can do is name like below. but this is not particularly great honestly (Something I want us to do better). It will list each episode separately but playing either one will play the same file from beginning to end but won’t mark the other watched. Of course i dunno if number of episodes it the same so this might not matter when you split apart.
I should have said this in the first part, but basically, in my plex library, I have my media files separated as Movies, Live Action Shows, and Cartoons. And Yugioh is under cartoons. Then I did what you said and have them separated as different folders for there languages. Here’s what the library looks like right now
If they are in separate folders now and you rescanned then on the preplay screen with the season posters, in the ellipses option menu on the top right “split apart” should be available
