Serious buffering issues during streaming

Server Version#: 4.12.3 (latest beta)
Player Version#: latest

Hi everybody, before writing this post I got some information about media file types, subtitles, streaming, and so on, nevertheless I am a total noob about it and hope not to be too boring.

The problem has been already debated here, but, as far as I tried, I didn’t find a solution about that. Let’s make an example. I converted (using Handbrake) Ad Astra mkv FullHD, in a mp4 version with ~12Mbit/s of bitrate, without embedded subtitles, only one audio source (eng, converted to AAC - I tried AC3 as well). The problem is always the same: as soon as I activate external subtitles in srt format, transcoding is fired on, and this leads to stuttering play… when I disable srt subs the server media application returns to direct streaming without any problems. I am using a windows 10 pro 64 bit, core i5 7600k@4,6Ghz, pass paid, HW transcoding on (1080 gtx lightly oc’ed) . I am quite puzzled, since the only solution for now is burning the subs during handbrake process. I really hope someone can help me, and please, forgive my english, not mother tongue here  ! I am ready to give any sort of further information about my case. Thanks a lot! Luca

Are you playing videos in a web browser? Or are you using a separate Plex app on your computer?

If you’re using the web browser to play videos, try the Plex for Windows desktop app instead:

Hi! You were right I was doing wrong playing it inside chrome… the problem of transcoding using the external app is vanished, but I actually have same stuttering problem when I stream from my server pc to my tv on the secondo floor (the tv uses a intel NUC i5 with 16gb of RAM and integrated GPU and external plex app), no transcoding but still stuttering, what could it be? Thanks alot again

What’s the version of that app on the NUC?

1.4.1.940-574c2fa7

Any ideas about this stuttering issues?

Is this all running Windows 10?

Put this on the NUC with the TV use the 2.46 version.

Switch to TV mode and turn on Hardware Decoding, Deinterlace, Direct Play, Direct Stream.

If you still get buffering, you will need to upload a set of logs from the Troubleshooting “Download Logs” .

Also check the dashboard/now playing for details of what is going on.

yes sir, it is working under 10 pro 64

Hi! Thanks a lot, this version did the magic! but how can it be, I mean, what it the reason? And how can I use the normal version with the same benefits? Thanks again, you greatly helped me!

You’re running the better version — the other version is newer but doesn’t have the same capabilities especially when the computer is connected to your TV.

Good to know, and thanks again!
