About 2 weeks ago or so, some of my remote users started asking me if something was happening with our plex server. I tried troubleshooting their end, thinking it was something on their network, player, etc. as it was till working internally on my network. After a couple days, I started having the same issue - from inside my network the Plex app (both web and Roku app) couldn’t access the server. If I got lucky, I could go directly to the server IP and I could click apply under the remote access and after a few minutes, it would start working again. If I was unlucky, I couldn’t pull up the web interface, even using the IP directly and I had to restart the plex service. That would fix the issue for a few hours, both internally and external to my network, then it would stop working again. My setup is a single internet connection coming in to a PFSense router/firewall, port forwarding 32400 straight to the plex server which is hosted on it’s own hardware (Intel NUC). No enabled firewall on the plex server. I have tried disabling DNS rebinding check, as well as added the lines private-domain: “plex.direct” to the custom options box. There is no running firewall on the server and there is no VPN, reverse proxy, etc. involved. I am running pfblockerng on the firewall, but I have also tried disabling it, which has no noticeable effect either way. Can someone give me some advice on what else to check? This has been running with the same configuration for a couple years now without issue. Since the issue started, I have applied a couple patches to the plex server, so it should be on the latest public release. That has not made a difference either.

In case anyone wants to know, I fixed this issue by deleting the Preferences.xml file and reclaiming the server. Reclaiming the server without deleting the file did not seem to fix the issue.
