Server app won't open - new Mac Mini

Server Version#:v.1.40.4.8679-424562606
July 9, 2024

My previous mini just died, used migration assistant to bring everything over from a backup. Previous mini was on High Sierra, new mini is on Sonoma.
Tried to open plex, server app won’t open.
Deleted app, reinstalled, same thing.
Deleted ALL plex folders, app etc of the hd on the new mini. Restarted.

Still, icon briefly tries to open (I see it for a fraction of a second in the menu bar) then nothing.

What is going on? How do I fix this?

How did you uninstall?

Literally searched for any files with plex in them and deleted them all.

Try it this way exactly. Must use the Home Library>

https://support.plex.tv/articles/201941078-uninstall-plex-media-server/

If the server app still fails to open after a clean uninstall / re-install…

Please attempt the following procedure to see if there’s any error messages on the OS level:

  1. Open Finder and navigate to /Applications
  2. Select Show Content from the context menu of the Plex Media Server.app item
  3. Navigate to Contents/MacOS
  4. Open the Terminal app
  5. Drag the Plex Media Server executable from the Finder window (#3) into the Terminal Window and press Return to execute it

This is no different from running the app, so it won’t succeed – but you should get a more specific error message about what’s causing it to fail starting.

Going in the home library and deleting solved it!
Thank you!
