Server credential reset utility for Linux-based platforms

This is what I see in the logs, despite having changed DNS to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8:
WARN - [HttpClient/HCl#cad] HTTP error requesting GET https://plex.tv/api/v2/features?X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxe host name) (Could not resolve host: plex.tv)

Hi @ChuckPa I do mind erasing my server and all my data.
I will wait for him/her to contact me with a step by step method to reclaim my server.
I was thinking recreating a new Plex account, not impacting the NAS itself.

Maybe the technician could do manualy the first part of your script (erasing username and so on) so I could reclaim it.

I experienced that last night myself.
Today, it seems ok but I’ve asked the operations folks to let me know anyway.

@kpfletcher_gmail_com

I checked with Operations folks .

They looked at the logs.

Their communications with CloudFlare (our DNS provider) had nothing abnormal.

If CloudFlare burped, google would also burp because it’s downstream.

Does it still fail for you?

This fixed my server. It took me a while due to my own ability to use Linux. It worked.

Im on version = plexmediaserver_1.28.2.6151-914ddd2b3_amd64

Just to know, does anyone with a MyCloudHome managed to make it work again?

Hi Chuck

The issue persists this morning:

I just swapped out my router for an older one after trying everything I could possibly think of and everything works. I reclaimed the server. Now I have to examine the router I took out and find out why it was blocking traffic from the NAS. Thanks for your help. Incredible. I’m an IT Professional!

Thank you for this post! I was just trying to set up my DSM 6 NAS with Plex and it wasn’t working. I was pulling my hair out thinking it was a permissions issue, but that was barking up the wrong tree. Once I found this thread and ran this script, everything immediately started working. I think what happened is that years ago I had run Plex but then uninstalled it so maybe my server was already claimed and it wasn’t being found? I don’t know, but after not getting anywhere with any other thread, this was the one that got me back to a functional state.

Thanks!

Glad it worked!

Nobody?

I just downloaded your tool ran the script and it went though and acted like eveything did ok. However I still can’t get back into my plex server. when I launch the plex server on my ubuntu system it just comes up with the plex splash screen and sits there and does nothing I can’t get anywhere past that?

ok correction my server is now showing up when I try to access plex from other devices when it wasn’t previously however I still can not bring up localhost:32400/web on my actual plex server it just sits at the plex splash screen and does nothing so that is still an issue. Any idea what is going on there?

The OP says the shell script claims the server and gets it working like this never happened.
In that case, you should be able to securely connect as usual to the PMS, assuming you’ve reset the browser: clear all history, cache, and cookies and restart it.

What happens after you’ve done that & try to open either

https://127.0.0.1:32400/web
https://app.plex.tv

ok so I download firefox as a secondary browser to test and it opens there on the plex server in ubuntu with no issues so I thought great clearing cache will probably work in chrome and fix the issue… Nope still wont open in chrome for some reason just sits there on the splash screen. I mean it works in firefox so I am not dead in the water but still would like to figure out why all of a sudden I can’t pull up the plex web app chrome. If you can think of anything let me know. I am gonna play around a bit more

In Chrome, make sure every chrome window, and the background processes, are exited (Chrome leaves background pids)

For those who have the ‘unable to connect securely’ issue,

I have found a case where the local PMS does not download a new certificate.

I’ve updated the utility to take care of that. (v1.0.4)

:man_facepalming: ok clear browser cache in chrome and completely rebooted my server and still refuses to work in Chrome. I mean its fine I can use Firefox it just bugs me is all that I can’t seem to solve this and it makes no sense whatsoever

Chrome plugins / extensions will wreak havoc … keep an eye on those too

Does a fresh start of chrome, using an incognito window, work?
(No other Plex browser windows open)
