Hello!

I’ve been running a server off my Synology DS1520+ (DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 5) with almost no problems nearly 24/7 for a year or two now. Couldn’t be happier, outside some minor annoyances with plex not recognizing a few titles here and there. I share the server with a few friends and family who have had no trouble accessing the libraries at any time.

Yesterday, after no recent updates or manual changes made, the server vanished - did not show up when accessed from any browser or my android devices. My friends confirmed they could not access it remotely either. The plex server app was still running on my NAS, but opening it from there did not offer the server claim prompt that I have gone through before, just showing the smaller private media server I run from my PC and a couple friends’ libraries. All the media files are still in their places and the Plex Media Server folder still shows up on the DSM, no changes to permissions that I’m aware of.

I tried following some steps I found on the forums to uninstall the server app and re-install using a claim token. I’ve tried 3 or 4 times and it always fails with a “could not communicate with plex.tv” error. Any help I can get restoring this server would be greatly appreciated

This error tells you the Syno can’t get to the internet.

Control Panel - Network settings.

  1. DNS IP
  2. Gateway IP
  3. Default interface (gateway)

Hi! Thanks for the reply.

I’ve confirmed the Synology has internet access. I’m away from home right now and can access it remotely via Quickconnect (by which I can confirm IP, DNS, and Gateway fields are all correctly populated in Network Settings) as well as accessing my Synology Drive files via my android phone.

It’s very likely some kind of network problem is preventing the Synology from communicating with plex.tv specifically. I’m not experiencing connection problems with anything else connected to my internet connection or home network. I didn’t make any changes to the settings on the Synology or my router recently. I’m not sure where to begin looking for the problem.

When you’re home,

we can ssh into the syno and then start traceroute to figure out where it’s blocking.

Alright, I’m home and ready to troubleshoot whenever you’re available

just got home myself. let me get settled then I will PM you

EDIT: Found a solution to this problem. I changed my DNS configuration from the default one to a publicly available one (I used Quad9) and my synology was then able to access plex.tv.

Hello, I am having a similar (if not the same) issue. Figured continuing here would be better than starting a new thread with the same title/info (in case this was resolved for the OP).

Server version: 1.41.0.8992
Server OS: Synology DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 5

My server disappeared from my account. I accessed my account through Chrome at http://server_ip:32400/web and it didn’t show up there either (it only shows the “Movies & TV”, “Watchlist”, etc. but no personal media).

I uninstalled and reinstalled the same version of Plex. Did not work. Then I followed the steps from a support article and deleted the following entries from my Preferences.xml file:

  • PlexOnlineHome=“1”
  • PlexOnlineMail=“my email”
  • PlexOnlineToken=“token here (did not save it)”
  • PlexOnlineUsername=“my username”

After restarting PMS, my server became visible again, but it was unclaimed. When I clicked on the “CLAIM SERVER” button, nothing happened. I switched browsers to Firefox (no Plex-related cookies here) and when I clicked on “CLAIM SERVER”, it opened a plex.tv window prompting me to login. I logged in and it returned to the PMS window and displayed “There was a problem logging in”. Again didn’t work. I checked the Preferences.xml file and there was a null PlexOnlineToken=“” entry.

I checked the logs and found the following:

WARN - [HttpClient/HCl#9c] HTTP error requesting GET https://plex.tv/api/v2/user/privacy?X-Plex-Token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxficate or SSH remote key was not OK) (SSL: no alternative certificate subject name matches target host name ‘plex.tv’)

I then downloaded a .zip file with the logs through the web interface. I checked and confirmed that my Synology is connected to the internet via other apps (Synology Drive, Photos, and Chat are all accessible outside my local network. My CloudSync is also working.) I also checked that the date and time in my server are correct.

Please help! Happy to provide any additional info.
