Unable to claim server on completely wiped synology

Server Version#: 1.30.2.6563
Player Version#: Version 4.87.2

Hello! I have been having issues with claiming my plex server for a couple of days and I’m starting to pull my hair out after days of research.

To preface, I was looking to upgrade my drives in my DS220+ and chose to reset the whole device. Upon resetting and trying to claim a new plex server, I was met with an error that said “issues
logging into plex” when initially claiming the server locally on “http://placeholder-IP:32400/web”.

When logging into the account after creating the media libraries, and going into the claim server button in settings > server > general, I was met with cannot claim this server. I removed the previously authorized servers from the plex account, and still have not come closer to a solution. I have nothing running except a fresh install of my Synology, and PMS. I tried claiming with the token and the NAS disappears from the account page and no errors are shown and I cannot access the server anymore.

Any ideas? Thanks!

If a complete wipe, Does this include DSM 7 as well ??

What error did you get? Is the server properly configured for the LAN ?
( Syno Control Panel - Network )

If it can communicate to the web ok.

I wiped the synology and installed dsm 7.1, and the most recent plex installation available to plex pass downloaders.
The issue i receive when trying to name and claim the server is:
“there was a problem claiming this server” in a red drop down modal.
It skips the clam step and goes to try setting up the media.

Please follow the steps I show above.

It claims the server as part of the installation process.

After following these instructions, the PMS is claimed by my account.
However the server does not appear in the settings, nor the hamburger menu on the left. I checked and it doesn’t appear in either the plex.tv site, or directly using the IP address to access index.html.

Where the server normally would be, in both settings and the side menu it shows
“Your Media” with an add your Media to Plex screen.

Close and reopen the browser.

As you open the Synology (by LAN IP address) the list will be populated from Plex.tv as it loads

It would be nice if the left panel updating were dynamic but it’s not.

Repeating those steps resulted in the same issue.
After trying this, i tried on Edge which i have not signed in on previously with Plex, also did not work. I cant add media libraries or even access the server, on my PC or my laptop.

I looked at Plex.tv

There were two instances of the same named Synology server – Both had been deleted.

  1. Did you use this method when installing the PMS package ?

( You get the claim token by clicking the link, copying it, and pasting into the box )

  1. When you install with this method, and it completes successfully, in the final popup, you’ll see this.

Did you get these results (your username) ?

Yes, i was able to claim with no issue. However the actual server is nowhere to be found whether on plex.tv or direct. It says it is claimed by me (via authorized devices), it is also the only server i have registered.

Checking now.

I am checking under the account name you use here in the forum.

There is no server listed.

Which username did you register it with?

Its the same username, same account for the plex server.
PMS - “Authorized Devices” does show the NAS registered under my account (Argentsamurai) same account im using to type this.

Attached is a picture of the account, with the NAS showing as registered, however it is not in my account. This is directly through the IP.

Going to send you a PM.

Watch for it in the upper right corner here in the forum.

FUTURE:

To those who find this:

  1. Both ETH0 and ETH1 were plugged in.
  2. It was claimed

Problem

  • Server couldn’t communicate with Plex.tv.
  • Server didn’t show up anywhere.

SOLUTION:

  1. Control Panel

  2. Network

  3. Network Interfaces

  4. Create BOND ( if both adapters are plugged into the same LAN )
    – This takes a minute or two.
    – When finished , it will be at the primary IP address of the NAS

  5. You will see a new network adapter “bond1”

  6. Restart PMS

  7. Enjoy

Root cause

It couldn’t communicate with Plex.tv from inside PMS because of how DSM works.

Result:

Creating a bond adapter merged both adapters into one.

  • Created redundancy in event of failure
  • Presented one IP to DSM and PMS.
