Server has completely disappeared on my mac!

I looked into PLEX just over a year ago because I had heard good reports but I have found it to be extremely frustrating and difficult to use.

I eventually managed to install PLEX on my Mac but the software is so difficult to use and very un-user friendly that - despite paying a monthly fee of £3.99 - I didn’t use it. It was horrendously difficult to add any video content to a very basic file/folder structure.

I noticed that PLEX appeared on my SMART TV home pages as something I could use and it appeared on my iPad.

It seemed to work but I was wary of doing so.

I have noticed in the last couple of weeks that PLEX has disappeared from my TV screen as a server option and the app no longer works on my iPad.

When I try to access the PLEX site on my Mac I get lots of messages saying there is no server or idiotic messages like:

“No soup for you! The sever you’re trying to access doesn’t want to leet you in. Make sure you’re signed in as a user with access to this server.”

I appear to be signed in on the PLEX webpage and I can access my account.

But I have no server so PLEX is completely useless. And I’m paying £3.99 for it…

What can be done to resolve this? I am close to pulling the plug on the account - PLEX is a total nightmare, I would not recommend it to anyone.

First, you don’t need to pay for Plex Pass to install and use the day to day stuff of Plex; see here for Plex Pass specific features that you may or may not need/want: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201751006-plex-pass-feature-overview/

Next, are you by any chance, using Firefox? If so, try a different browser. If not, then:

I’m not sure this will help but in your shoes I would start here:
Go here: https://app.plex.tv/desktop and make sure you’re logged in to the account you want to use. If you’re already logged in, log out and then log back in.

Do you see your content?

Next, go to each client, log out and log back in using the same Plex account.

I have been paying a monthly charge of £3.99 for over a year now - even though I found the software too difficult to use and now it’s not working at all.

I am using SAFARI browser on a Mac.

When I access the PLEX webpage I can see all my details are there on my Account page.

However there is no server - I just get a spinning wheel and a message saying “Looking for server”.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the PLEX server app on many occasions. It appears to work then asks if I want to have the app put in my Applications folder. I agree - say “OK” - but it is unable to do this. I have no idea where PLEX is located on my Mac but it must be there somewhere as I have access to it from top menu bar.

I have logged in and out of my account several times but it makes no difference - the server has completely disappeared.

I don’t have this problem with the WD My Cloud software - it’s much more reliable.

I will wait a while longer in case I can get any technical support from PLEX. If not then I will shut down my account, end all payments.

I really think PLEX is not able to work on a Mac - I had heard this might be the case and looks like it’s true. It doesn’t work with Apple products.

Think I may have sorted the problem …

Managed to get the server working but cannot see any of my library content when I use the PLEX app on my iPad and it still hasn’t reappeared as a server on my TV home screen.

Do I need to make changes to my settings when I view the server details on my Mac?
