Up until a couple of days ago Plex was working flawlessly, on my PC where the server is located, on my phone, and my TV.
Then one day I opened Plex in my Firefox browser and it said it couldn’t connect to my server, all the while my TV app and phone app still worked fine.
It finally connected to my server again but the web version still wouldn’t play any of my videos, still my phone app and TV app were working fine.
I downloaded the Windows app as I prefer to use that over the web version but that won’t even load, gets stuck on the Logo screen and eventually times out.
Tonight, in an attempt to fix this I wanted to restart fresh, so I removed my server from my account and uninstalled it from my computer. I did this about 3 times and it never changed anything. I deleted the app data folder for the server and uninstalled it again. I did this in hopes that when I reinstalled the server it would prompt me to start from scratch and reload all of my folders, like it did on day one. This never happened, instead after installation and I launch the server, the icon just shows up in the taskbar tray and nothing happens. If I right click that icon and click to open the server, Firefox attempts to open it but it eventually times out. Trying to get to it from the plex.tv site while logged gets me no where as well and doesn’t even show that I have a server connected to my account anymore (which I knew this would be the case since chose to remove it).
Aside from deleting my current account and trying with a new email address and creating a brand new account I’m at a complete loss of what to do. I’ve been using Plex for years and was even paying for Plex Pass, even though the price went up. I cancelled my subscription but I want to renew it because I don’t want to try something else, nothing else compares to Plex.
Please help.
Pms settings are saved in the windows registry. As long as that exists, your server still exists. Delete the registry and you can start over. You don’t even need to reinstall pms.
Thank you, I’ll give this a shot today.
I uninstalled the server again, deleted the app data folder, and deleted the registry folder. Reinstalled the server and I get the same thing. I’m at a loss here and I really don’t feel like doing a complete reinstall of Windows.
Can you pm me your registry?
I could, sure. What all are you wanting? A file or a screenshot?
PM sent with a screenshot.
Hmm. The registry is mostly blank so you should see the setup wizard.
Did you possibly install pms as admin? Or have it running previously as a service?
That current install I did not run it as admin but I did once last night and it made no difference.
What do you mean by running it as a service?
I tried it again, ran the installer as admin and opened the server as admin and I still get nothing.
When I right click on the tray icon and click on “Open Plex”, http://127.0.0.1:32400/myplex/launch?X-Plex-Token=local-bb5ac798-d507-4546-99e2-a55ad3edba99, this is where it’s trying to send me which doesn’t look right.
I removed the server as an authorized device in my settings but every time I open Plex from the main website it never recognizes that a server is even installed on my PC. I’ve done every step I can think of to make this act like a fresh server install and nothing is working. What’s really messing with my head is everything was perfectly fine a week ago and then suddenly it stopped recognizing my server.
I’ve tried installing it on multiple hard drives and nothing seems to work.
I’d also like to add that I have turned my firewall down to the lowest security setting, my VPN is disconnected and not even running on the PC, Windows Defender is disabled, I’ve double checked the Windows Firewall and Plex is being allowed on private and public and I have my network set up as private. But the server was working completely fine with all of this stuff on and working normally the other day. I was even able to connect to my Plex server remotely while having my VPN on.
I tried everything listed out on this topic and I’m still getting the same thing.
I’m starting to lean towards doing a fresh Windows install but I’m not convinced that’ll fix my problem.
It works!
I have no idea what happened but I installed the Jellyfin server and that didn’t work either. On the third restart of my PC the Plex server popped up in Firefox asking me to set it up. It’s currently running and loading my folders.
This was a false positive I guess. Worked okay on my PC but I couldn’t connect from my phone even when on the same network as my PC.
I uninstalled everything again and I’m resetting Windows, I have no other option.
