Server Version#: 3.57.1
Player Version#: Safari Web Browser
QTS Version 4.3.4
I have a QNAP TS451+ Been running PMS for about 2 years with it. no real issues to speak of so far until yesterday.
Yesterday I purchased Plex Pass for my Plex account. Went on to my PMS server (login in to Qnap then click the link to open the Plex which opens a new tab in Safari)
I added 5 users. On Qnap I created a new folder and put some movies in there. I then went back to Plex and added new folder to the server. It didn’t see any of the content. but I thought maybe it was still scraping. I then went to users and added 1 user to be able to access this folder. All other users can only access the original folders.
Now my PMS is showing as unavailable.
It just says looking for servers.
I rebooted the the NAS
I have removed the Plex app from Qnap and rebooted
Reinstalled the Plex app downloaded latest version from Plex web site.
Rebooted Nas
Still didn’t work
Removed Plex app from Qnap and rebooted again
Installed Plex from the App centre
Rebooted Nas
Still it won’t work. I am able to access all the folders that was created via File Station. Just When I open Plex Web it says looking for servers.
I have also deleted the extra folder I created and left Plex Home from within the server. This still hasn’t helped
I’ve deleted the Preferences.xml and plexmediaserver.pid in:
[/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex Media Server]
Restarted PMS but it still doesn’t find the server.
I’ve also noticed that if I login into QTS as admin I cannot see the Plugin folder. Yes logged in as my user (I always use, really use admin) I can see the plugins folder.
Owner shows as admin group everyone so not sure why I can’t see it as admin user…
Ive attached the logs, which when logged in as me I couldn’t zip the logs folder due to permissions issue. Had to go into he Logs folder and select everything in there and then create the zip file. PLEXLOGS.zip (271.1 KB)
Please don’t change them for the sake of backup.
PMS runs as the admin (root) user on QNAP. and therefore are not readable by a regular user login.
This is default Linux security in action.
I tried a new private browser from Safari. I also tried Firefox from a PC I have never used to connect to my system.
When using private session and FF I was prompted to login. and then it shows in the top left just below the home button Looking For servers.
Is there a way to reset it or something?
I think I may have removed the server from PMS when it wouldn’t load and was showing the server offline. I though I would have just been able to add it back in?
Plex was already setup it just seems that after I purchased Plex Pass I added a new folder and then it showed my server as offline so I removed hoping that it would find it again on a reboot.
Depending on VPN client, you will get the Referrer-IP (IP addr on your local end) in the HTTP header. When this happens, it treats you as remote because you really are.
SSH-tunnel is how to do it.
Either with Putty, forwarding local 127.0.0.1:8888 -> remote 127.0.0.1:32400 then connecting to http://127.0.0.1:8888/web on your local.
-or-
ssh -L 8888:127.0.0.1:32400 ip.addr.of.qnap directly
and opening http://127.0.0.1:8888/web
It doesn’t explain why it broke after purchasing plex pass. and adding a folder.
It all worked regardless of whether I used VPN, qnapcloud relay or external IP.
I have just tried my external IP from a computer that I have never used before (borrowed a friends). I got asked to login which I did, and now I get the same as the image in my previous reply, only I have my external IP address.
So I think looking at my connection method is a red herring at this stage.
I can clearly connect to Plex its just nit seeing the server itself.
I have stopped\started Plex from app centre many times. I have also restarted the QNAP many times . Also removed rebooted and reinstalled plex from both app centre and from downloading the latest version from plex.tv downloads.
I have recently (after making changes) removed plex and then re-installed with latest version from plex.tv
The Plex Pass is coincidental to something else.
The only thing a PlexPass does is to enable flags at Plex.tv which, when you restart PMS and PMS queries to see the subscription status, enable more features in the software (sync, HW transcoding, etc).
At this point, grab the logs manually please.
They’re under .qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex Media Server/Logs
