Hi all, I have been grinding my head about this one for months now, but I can’t seem to find it.
Plex is not able to auto-match movies. It’s probably a misconfiguration somewhere, as it has never done the trick for me. When I then look at the match list, most of the time the first movie is correct.
Series are no problem and work like a charm.
I have all movies in a Movies folder with correct naming (eg Oppenheimer (2023) {imdb-872585}).
In the library settings for movies I have:
Scanner: Plex Movie
Agent: Plex Movie
This looks fishy. Shouldn’t this be Oppenheimer (2023) {imdb-tt15398776} ? 872585 is the id at tmdb so if you want to use their matching id it would be Oppenheimer (2023) {tmdb-872585}.
I name all my movies with the IMDB number. I noticed when I rebuilt my server the initial scan wouldn’t match a dozen or so movies
It seems that if there’s a problem with the IMDB number, matching doesn’t fall back to the actual name of the file, which in most cases would be a correct match
This happened primarily for things the IMDB listed as a series which contradicted TMDB and TVDB listing them correctly as movies
Once I corrected those items and either removed the IMDB number completely or changed it to the correct TMDB number it matched immediately
I think it should try to match it with the movie id first, but if there’s no match it should have a fallback layer so to speak that checks the file name instead
I was under the impression this was how it’s supposed to work but I’m either not recalling what I read or this doesn’t exactly work how it should
Unfortunately I corrected those items some time ago, so I can’t give specific examples

I have changed imdb to tmdb and kept the ID, added some movies to try it out and they all matched without an issue.
