Both fully up to date on server and media player on the firestick 4k. Will fish out the versions.
This has been going on a while but seems to get worse and worse.
This error appears on absolutely all sorts of video files. However there’s no conversion should be taking place. Everything is set to allow direct playing. And indeed the device can play all the files it claims the server is unable to transcode, because whenever they fail I end up opening them in VLC (not to mention I’m certain my server could handle a transcode). The files play on all my other devices ok, just not the firestick.
I’ve been through various troubleshooting guides online but these all seem to be about disabling transcoding- and it is disabled already.
This feels like a bug tbh, what can I do to troubleshoot and fix?
Forgot to add, there’s a funny little work around for this, which again makes me think this is a bug.
If I start to play the video on my phone or laptop, then use the player chooser to play on the firestick, the video then plays fine.
I’m also getting files that usually fail sporadically playing. I’ve just had this happen and checked the logs. It’s direct playing the file fine. However on the occassions where it’s failing the logs on my firestick say:

So it is attempting to transcode a file that it can and should be playing direct.
File is a 1080 23.976 fps h264 4.0. It’s audio is AC2 Mono 192kbps 480000hz.
I can’t see any reason on most occasions I attempt to play this and other files that it is behaving as though it isn’t able to direct play which is clearly can and should.
Please recreate the issue capture the server logs and post them here. Please do not post snippets either. It is really important that the full logs be posted for troubleshooting.
I had sporadic problems after I upgraded to a 4k Fire Stick, and took to trawling through the forums till I noticed a post metioning “low powered devices”. Turns out I had been using the power supply from my old Fire Stick which is 5v 1A. I dug out the one that came with the 4k stick and that’s 5.25v 1A!
