Server not starting after update, Warning: ex: boost::filesystem::last_write_time: No such file

Hey,

I just updated Plex to 1.4.1 via manuall install on my Synology 916 and now I’m getting all these errors in the logs and the server isn’t starting or showing up on https://app.plex.tv/web/app#

Any idea what’s wrong there?

May I have all the log files please (Settings - Server - Help - Download Logs) ?

I have this same problem. With 1.4.2 now as well. And no, I can’t goto Settings - Server - Help - Download Logs because like the previous poster said, the server doesn’t start.

Attached are all my logs.

There is something very wrong with the zip file itself. I can open anything else except “Plex Media Server.log”… which is the one I need to see.

I hate to shotgun this but have no choice.

  1. Uninstall PMS from Package Center
  2. Restart DSM
  3. Install PMS

Also, what version of DSM and DiskStation model are you using?

There’s nothing wrong with the zip file from what I can see. I did it straight on the Synology and I can see it on my Mac and read that file fine.

It’s the latest public DSM and I have a 412+.

I can open zipped logs without a problem as well.

This is what i get. I only get it with that file from your logs. All other files in that zip are fine.

The uninstall / reinstall method worked.

I’ve done all the suggested DB optimisation and cleanup too, although it was already set to do all of those as scheduled tasks.

It’s definitely still sluggish, but I think that’s as much a problem with the hardware as anything else.

Sorry, didn’t get a notification for that. I reinstalled and it seems to work so far but I’ll provide logs as soon as it shows up again.

I have this same problem on my Synology DS415+. All was working great then NOT accessible at all. Googling the same error at top yielded this post. I’ll try the re-install steps and report back.

Be advised, reinstalling the package only reinstalls the binaries. It does not touch your data or synology configuration.

I will need to see your logs (manually captured using FileStation) if your steps don’t resolve it

Thanks. Yeah, I did an upgrade to the latest Plex Pass version. Didn’t help, unfortunately.

Quick question. I’m backing up my large Plex Media Server folder. When I re-install the Plex binaries, do I simply overwrite the newly-installed Plex Media Server folder with my back-up’d copy? mv old_version new_version?
Thanks,
ItalicAlec

Alec,
Please explain your end goal / help me understand?

You want to:

  1. Backup your existing Plex share,
  2. Reinstall the binaries,
  3. Restore your backup copy?

If so, Backup/Restore is not necessary.

I keep the software binaries in a different location (/var/packages) under the AppStore.
Your Plex share is wherever you want it (Volume1, Volume2, etc)

I don’t delete your Plex share when you uninstall PMS.
It’s important not to delete because Synology doesn’t allow us to downgrade without uninstalling the binaries first.

ChuckPA,
Hey, THANKS for that. Yes, that is what I wanted to do. I just read this now after re-installing and you are 100% correct. Post-install and my content was all still in place. No need to back up the /Plex Media Server folder at all.

Looks like the re-install did the trick. About to run the steps you mentioned above.
Thanks again,
ItalicAlec

Alec,

Glad that resolved it for you. I was confident it would. I have a bit of inside track on Synology. I wrote and maintain the installer

Annnnndd the same problem Is back. Will gather up logs etc but it literally just stopped working again. No changes, edits , or updates. Fixed it and forgot it then it broke again.

Everyone,

Download and install the 64 bit version of PMS from Plex.tv/downloads while I find the root cause and make changes I need or get in contact with Synology.

I’m having the same issue and I’m not using synology.
I checked that the folder exists, the permissions are correct, this just started happening after updating.
