Server Version#: 1.18.1.1973
Player Version#: Any
My setup:
I use an Nvidia Shield (with a USB 3.0 HDD that is used as the Plex “Storage Location”) as my server, and a NAS to store my media. My clients are an LG TV, Apple TV, Roku, Fire stick, and iOS.
Issue:
This is plex server buffer issue, not a plex client buffer issue. I direct stream all my content (long story, don’t tell me I have to direct play). Majority of the time, everything plays fine, but randomly the server will just stop building a buffer (my current buffer is set to 600 seconds). When I monitor the server, I see it quickly build up to the 10 minute mark and will maintain that buffer, but on occasion it will use it up and never replace it. Then the video is just constantly buffering.
Note: Plex is not transcoding the video or the audio, it says it is Direct Stream. I’ll try to attach a screenshot.
What I have done:
I did figure out that if I skip forward, I can sometimes force plex to start building a proper buffer again. Sometimes it works and then Plex will continue to maintain the buffer, other times it will only build for a couple minutes and then start the buffering all over again.
When this happens, I try and access my NAS to see if the SMB share went down or won’t transfer. It appears to be responsive as I am able to access videos and transfer them using SMB. For me, that rules out the NAS.
What I need:
If you know why this is happening, lay it on me. Otherwise, it appears to be an issue with my plex server. I am trying to identify which logs will give me the info I need to troubleshoot and identify the reason for the buffering. I went through most of the logs, but they don’t appear to give me any media info. Is there a particular log I need, is there a certain log setting I need to enable to properly troubleshoot this?
