Server settings and creation is not available on web gui

Server Version#: 1.28
Player Version#: Version 4.84.1

Hi Plex community!

This is my first post so be gentle.

I’m just trying to setup a cloud plexmediaserver instance.

I followed the sudo dpkg -i plexmediaserver.deb install instructions and can access my plex media server via my server’s ip address + 32400

However I can’t seem to setup the file access side of things.

I wasn’t prompted with the usual server setup UI to select folders and etc, and when I go to my settings page there are no server settings available.

After digging through some forum posts I’ve come to understand that this is because I’m accessing the web GUI via a public IP address?

The thing is that I can’t access the web GUI via localhost because it’s a headless ubuntu server?

Are there any solutions to this? Do I need to install a NAS version of plexmediaserver?

Kind regards!

In order to complete the setup you need to open your Plex Media Server through a local connection. Given this is a remote server, you could achieve this by means of a SSH tunnel. Connecting to http://127.0.0.1:32400/Web from within a Remote Desktop session might also work.

Once you “claimed” your server (=linked it to your Plex Media Account), you’ll also be able to access it from other Plex apps or via http://app.plex.tv/desktop.
