Been using the server on my Nvidia Shield for a while now and have a mate set up on it. But since last night he can’t access anything and when I try to watch a movie on my iPad it starts the wrong movie and is jumpy. I’m guessing something in settings but completely lost. Any help would be appreciated
Your friend not being able to access media from your server sounds like some issue with the remote access setup. You should be able to check this yourself by trying to access your server while you’re outside your home network (e.g. using a phone/tablet with WLAN disabled).
As for the iPad starting to play a different movie… do you experience this also on your other clients (e.g. do you consistently get a different video for that movie)?
This could be some bad match…
I’ll try the remote issue in a sec. if I play the movie direct on shield it plays correct movie. Just not on any other device at home.
If I turn WiFi off on phone I can still play items on it
Done some more digging. Tv shows work remotely just all movies
If remote access is working for one type of media, it’s working for your entire server.
When you say your friend can’t access anything… do you mean they’ve got issues playing a file or is your entire (movie) library showing as offline? If they can still browse, the issue might be about the playback quality you get through your 4 Mbps upload. That might be ok for some optimized or DVD based shows… but not enough to play a higher-quality movie.
It’ll be interesting to see what information is showing on the “now playing” tile for that playback on your server…
e.g. focusing on how the video is being streamed (remote vs. indirect … given your friend is outside your home network it certainly won’t show as local 
) and if there’s any transcoding that might give your server the hiccups.
Problems when playing the movie on the philips television, before I had the possibility of canceling the use of a new way of playing in the settings and that allowed me to watch the movie but now in the settings it is no longer, it only happens to me on the philips television
For some reason now my server has went offline and won’t come back on.
My server is showing stopped and the storage location has defaulted back to internal and not the hard drive it was connected too
I’ve deleted everything and started again and it’s now working as it should. Guessing maybe the update got stuck
