Hello guys!
I recently moved and had to change my internet provider. The house I moved to is bigger than the one before, so I decided to use the mesh router I have from Huawei in combination with the router from the provider. So, I started with a wire from the main TP-Link AX1500 router to the Huawei Wifi 6 mesh router. From the Huawei router I connected a laptop where I installed the Plex server, and for viewing I use an NVidia Shield TV Pro connected to an OLED LG C2. The problem now is that I can no longer watch anything, and i’m receiving the error that the file cannot be played, if the Shield and the laptop are not connected to the same network, where the Plex server is. I made some settings on a router and it worked, and now it doesn’t work anymore… It should be mentioned that I want the connections to be wired, for better stability… What should I do? Where am I wrong in the settings? Funny thing, the music is playing!
Regards!

From what you describe, this doesn’t seem to be all that much of a remote access issue but some combination of configuration choices that contribute to remote playback failing. Without further input on your specific configuration, I suppose you configured your server not to transcode any media; however due to some other restrictions you applied, the media won’t play as-is through your artificial remote connection. As a result, Plex states that it cannot play the video (e.g. “client asks for a transcoded version, server says No”).

Some questions:

  • did you separate your network into different subnets on purpose?
  • are you applying restrictions in your setup?
    • [server] remote access bandwidth limits
    • [client] remote streaming quality preferences (bitrate limits)
  • is there a particular reason why you disabled video transcoding?
