Server shows offline for devices even though remote access is enabled and green

Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488 (runs in docker on unraid)

My server says remote access is enabled with the happy green check mark – but I am not able to view the library from any remote devices. My other devices work perfectly fine on the local network, but if I try anything remote (e.g., on mobile cell network or from another location’s wifi) then it shows the server as offline. The port is already set up to forward to my server’s static IP on my AT&T Arris BGW210-700.

Any idea what might be causing this?

Bump - any ideas for how to troubleshoot this?

Bump – shouldn’t this be working?

Just out of curriousity: do you believe the details you shared are specific enough to allow others to remotely have an idea what might be wrong?

What other detail would be helpful? I don’t know enough about this to know what the right details are - but I will happily post whatever else will help us try to identify the problem.

I assumed the green check mark means that remote access is working, but apparently it’s not that simple.

I am waiting with my next response until you start sharing what you did and how you did it (as in pictures please!).

Hi @kopfpilot I’ve tried to detail all the steps for you here:

Preparation

  • Open router firewall settings
  • Forward port 32400 to plex server
  • Open plex server settings > remote access
  • Enable remote access
  • Manually specify port 32400
  • Save settings
  • Plex displays green check and shows the message “Fully Accessible Outside Your Network”

Problem

  • Android phone is on mobile data/4G
  • Launch Plex app
  • Plex app has a red bar across the top that says “Offline”
  • On the home screen, none of my content is visible. It says “No Internet Connection”
  • Open my phone settings, turn on Wifi, connect to the same LAN as the Plex server
  • Refresh Plex app
  • All my content is now visible and I can watch it
  • Turn off Wifi, all the content disappears, Plex app says I’m offline again. Any content I was playing will fail in a few seconds

Issue appears to be resolved with latest updates to either Plex Server or Plex Android. Not sure which did it but now my library is accessible offsite again. shrug

I’m happy everything was resolved for you scud, however, I’m having the same exact issue. Let me start off by saying, my whole set-up was originally configured by a guy I found on Fiverr (that I no longer have contact with). So I have NO clue how to do anything remotely along the lines of configuring PLEX - I ONLY knew how to use the app and access my files (when it actually worked).

Everything initially worked (as well as PLEX “works”), meaning I was able to listen to my music and view photos if I chose while on the Go, using my cellular data. The last time being able to access my files was approximately 2 or 3 months ago now.

My Setup:

  • iMac
  • WD MyCloud Home
  • The Internet Connection:
    • So the router on my apartment is in my roommate’s room. I didn’t want to have my WD hard drive in his room at all times, so I got a guy off Fiverr to set up a connection whereas, another router I bought connects wirelessly to the router in my roommate’s room, and my hard drive/iMac connects to the other router (which is connected to the original router) in my room, if this makes sense

Below, I’ve included a screenshot of the PLEX window that states that my files should “fully accessible outside my network.” as well as a screenshot of my phone within the PLEX app:

PLEASE…any help would be greatly appreciated. Again, I am NOT tech savvy and outside of using the app to access the files, I have very little to no knowledge in the configuration side of things, however, if you need any additional information, I will gladly try to answer to the best of my abilities.

Thanks
