*I posted this under “Plex servers” as well, but haven’t received any replies, so here goes…
Server Version# 1.18.2.2079 (smb)
Player Version# 7.25.1.14216
Shield model: P297, Version 9
My NVIDIA Shield has constant problems connecting to my tv and requires restarts frequently. Tonight, while I had the Shield powered off, I added some movies to one of the hard drives that contain my Plex libraries. The same hard drive also is where I’ve been backing up my metadata. I reconnected the drive and powered the Shield back on. Now, my Plex server is “unreachable”, even though in settings on the Shield, the server reads as “running”. When I attempt to access the server from my desktop via plex.tv, I get the “No soup for you” message. The last two times my server was unavailable, I’d ended up, after days of frustration, having to uninstall Plex from the Shield and reinstall it. Despite having my metadata supposedly backed up, I (twice) had to recreate my entire (massive) library. I was still in the process of tweaking things from the last time this happened over a month ago. The idea of having to resort to that again makes me feel I need to consider giving up on Plex.
Update: So, currently, my home screen content is both viewable and workable (i.e. I can play “on deck” tv shows, etc.) on the Shield and remotely on my phone. I cannot access any content from my desktop, which is on the same network. I cannot access my libraries on any device. They just don’t show up. Not under the server and not in “more”. All that is viewable under my server is Playlists and that folder is empty, even though my recent playlists are viewable and functional on my home screen. After the restart, I was prompted to reconfigure my homescreen. My server as I named it was listed as unreachable. I have attempted setting both this and the “localhost” server which appeared following the restart as my primary, and am working off of localhost in the limited capacity I’ve described above. I tried renaming it to my server name, but it continues to display on both the Shield and on my phone as “localhost”. It feels like the PlexMedia Server and Plex Player app have become disconnected, though are both still working somehow. Everything else I said in the original post still applies (server displays as on in settings, but unreachable).
Any suggestions? I’ve tried the usual troubleshooting (logging out, etc.).
After the previous update, my shield was completely unreachable for a week, with various trys at reconnecting. Here were the steps that finally got it working, I’m not sure which one was the important one.
1- logged off the nvidia shield, then linked shield to account via the plex.tv/link linking.
2- made sure that the server was running in the nvidia shield options(one time it reset and the server was stopped after)
3- connected to the machine via network as per comment #2 in: After modifying storage location, server renamed to "localhost"
to rename the server back from localhost.
4- There was still a little weirdness, but eventually the libraries showed up again in the web app(a min or two after that change).
I also removed the old device from authorized devices, because it just “sticks” even though the same machine is renamed. I’m not sure when I did this step.
I’ve now got this same situation. Plex server on a WD PR4100 and have a 2015 and 2017 Shield as clients. Neither will successfully connect to the server. Other clients seem fine expcept I can’t seem to obtain live TV on my Samsung S10e. One of the shield TVs also has a Plex server set up on it and this is accessible from the Shield TVs. Additionally, MrMC works on both connected to the PR4100.
I’ve seen a longer post on Redit suggesting similar behavior to here.
Same for me. For about a week I often got the “Unreachable” error message. But the server is accessable via Android App or Web. After deleting all data of the Plex Shield App and re-linking it with my Account it works fine.
Nothing suggested has worked. I’m going to have to do what I did the last two times. Uninstall Plex and start over. I saved the metadata on an accessible drive this time. Hopefully I recover everything; otherwise, it’ll be (another) month or two of slowly fixing 6 TBs of data. Ugh. This really f’ing sucks.
awesome news.
was just playing around with my Nvidia Shield again.
Found there is a new update in the play store
installed that
all working again
Yayyyy
Thanks Plex Crew
(I might add, it is still saying the same Version 1.18.2.2079, but at least it is all working as it should be again)
It’s not a 100% fix,it works if you go up the menu and start clicking on another menu item, when it shows up it shows the tv movies and shows streaming tab and can’t find the server, there is a delay. So there is still something to fix somewhere.
Yeah my shield keeps disconnecting too. Cleared app cache and it worked for awhile and lost it again. A reboot of the shield works every time but I’d rather they just fix it instead of having to reboot the shield every day or so.
I know this is not what you want to hear but I switched to using my Synology Nas for my plex server instead of my shield and I have not had an issue since. I think the shield is just broken as a Plex Media Server. I am selling my shield.
