Plex Server unreachable on NVIDIA Shield

Server Version# 1.18.2.2079 (smb)
Player Version# 7.25.1.14216
Shield model: P297, Version 9

My NVIDIA Shield has constant problems connecting to my tv and requires restarts frequently. Tonight, while I had the Shield powered off, I added some movies to one of the hard drives that contain my Plex libraries. The same hard drive also is where I’ve been backing up my metadata. I reconnected the drive and powered the Shield back on. Now, my Plex server is “unreachable”, even though in settings on the Shield, the server reads as “running”. When I attempt to access the server from my desktop via plex.tv, I get the “No soup for you” message. The last two times my server was unavailable, I’d ended up, after days of frustration, having to uninstall Plex from the Shield and reinstall it. Despite having my metadata supposedly backed up, I (twice) had to recreate my entire (massive) library. I was still in the process of tweaking things from the last times this happened over a month ago. The idea of having to resort to that again makes me feel I need to consider giving up on Plex.

Any suggestions? I’ve tried the usual troubleshooting (logging out, etc.).

Have you tried connecting via network? as in comment #2 in:

After my shield resets, it sometimes switches back to localhost and doesn’t work until I rename it back to a normal server name.

Thanks for posting this; I hadn’t seen it. Unfortunately, I’d already assumed that something like this was the issue, and have already tried renaming the server. My library data is stored on an external drive and I am able to access it. It’s weird, because it appears the data is all there. The items available on my home screen match the specific (non-default) thumbnails and metadata they had before this happened. It’s getting that data from somewhere. The problem seems to be that the Plex app isn’t entirely linked to the Media Server.

That was similar to what happened to me. At first nothing showed up, but at some point after I renamed the server I saw the thumbnails on the home screen with no libraries. I did all of the following(not sure which step helped most)
1-signed out, then linked into the nvidia_shield plex app
2-rebooted, making sure that after the server was started
3-signed onto the web and switched the name back from localhost.
4-removed the old version of the authorized device.
5-logged off the web version, then back on.

I think one of those worked. not sure which one.

Yep, same problem here. Updated to Version#:1.18.2.2079 on my Nvidia Shield, and now it says server not running, but go into settings, and it says server IS running??? Very frustrating. Would be happier if Plex only brought out updates once a year. This seems to be happening every time there is an update, which is far too often. Can log in via web app from my laptop, and all is good, but that is no help when my Nvidia Shield is directly connected to my TV, as that is how I want to see my movies, on the TV, not my laptop.
Maybe Plex can develop and market their own media player…hint hint hint.
Might solve this regular “oh crap it’s broken again” merry-go-round we get on regularly.
Plex tech’s, you out there in cyberspace or what??
We would love some help.

Good news
Just found there was another update in play store
installed
all working again
(same version number as before though??)
