Server version 0.9.10.3 or higher required

Just want to let you know that my Xbox One is saying "Server Version 0.9.10.3 or higher required".  I am running server version 0.9.11.14.

It happens sometimes for me to. Quit the app and reopen it

I'll try that again, I have gone as far as a complete re-install of the app as well.  I am only wondering perhaps it is because of the plex preview release.  Nothing detrimental, just something I've noticed.  Not sure if this is where they want to hear about the preview versions or not.

You shouldn't ever (I'm going to regret saying that) completely reinstall the app. Restarting it from the home screen is (unfortunately) sometimes required.

It may be that we're showing this error message when it's actually not the problem. If it happens again, can you please check that you can reach your server when off your network? (Maybe by using your data connection on you phone?)

Thanks for the reports.

Just to add to what Dom said.  This message appeared for me when my server crashed, ironically about 20 minutes ago...  Restarting my server fixed the problem immediately.

I believe this message appears both when no server is detected or when an old version is detected.  But maybe Dom can clarify that a bit more.

That's correct. We stupidly show it in too many cases. It's generally a 'There were no suitable servers found'. Which could mean 'they all crashed', 'they're all too old' or 'they're not visible from plex.tv'.

We'll try and improve that.

Just to chime in on this... They are correct, it says it for just about everything

It did it just to me today

My server was up and working, but my eSet firewall on my Mac (where the plex server is located) was enabled and blocking all traffic. ..So, the plex app just could not find the sever.

I had to fix the firewall, and the "Try again" or "Go Home" buttons do not work as they should. It kept giving me the error. Not sure why "Try again" is even there

but i had to quit the app, and launch it again, and it came right up...

And just to chime in on that last post...

That does kind of suck... I have access to two other friends severs, not just mine...So, why can't the app start, and show those two servers (At remote locations).

So, anyways, once i fixed my firewall on my Plex sever machine, the plex app started fine, and found all 3 servers.

A good test is to see if you can access your PMS from outside of your home network - since that's the route the xbox has to go to 'discover' your server. This is a limitation of how we can do network discovery on the console.

Question:  I'm running Plex version 0.9.9.12 from my FreeNAS - any chance that there will be support for that version or do I need to upgrade FreeNAS 9.2.0 to 9.3.0 and then upgrade the PlexMedia plugin?

Thanks

You will need to do whatever is necessary to get to a more current version of Plex, I really doubt they plan to support versions that old. Especially given all the large changes that were made, case in point a new transcoder in the 0.9.10.x. As they've told people that were running xp (which they dropped support for in 0.9.10.0), it's time to upgrade.

This post in the FreeBSD forum talks about using a custom script to update the freenas version of PMS:
