Has a new problem been introduced? The preferences for commercial skipping on a per program basis are not saving
There appears to be an issue here. I will move your post to a new topic
I have another issue with the DVR. For some reason when I select in the dropdown “Detect commercials” when I select "Disabled’, and save…when I check back it is stuck on “Detect and delete commercials”. It won’t save “Use DVR Setting’ either. It just defaults to 'Detect and delete commercials” Is this a new bug?
I have the same issue on the latest release. Anyone else?
I am moving these last 2 posts to a new topic
I have reproduced the error and referred it to our development team
@Jase @davidbrenner1 Looked further into this. This might be just a UX issue and the Plex Commercial Skipper does actually run
Could you double check
It’s hard to tell as I have the default set to detect commercials and only set to “disable” on shows that don’t typically have commercials such as programs on PBS. This is to prevent parts of the show from being removed as there are no commercials to edit. Is there another way to test? Put a different way…it doesn’t matter what the setting I use on a per show basis is; it always reverts back to whatever I set for the DVR…at least in the UI.
this is my same usage. i have the default set to comskip and set my pbs shows to diaabled. all of a sudden all of my pbs shows show comskip in the gui and when i look at logs the process is running on my previously disabled shows.
The commercial skipper is working but I am unable to select either “Disabled” and the new “Detect Commercials Skip” Of note, when I selected the new commercials skip, it did save but after the recordings finished the files simply disappeared. Not long after, the Plex server totally crashed. Now it is the same as the bug as I reported earlier, I’m unable to choose anything but what is set in the default DVR settings.
This is happening to me as well.
- I cannot change individual recording settings from the system default. Ie- if the default is delete commercials, that’s my only option. I can’t change one separate recording to a different option to my default.
- Detect/Mark recordings to skip commercials setting either causes the recording to fail or there’s no option to skip commercials.
It’s happening to me also!!!
The default setting for “Detect & delete commercials” is in Live TV & DVR > DVR Settings. But you should be able to override that in the Advanced Settings for each individual DVR event appearing in the DVR Schedule tab. In fact, if you do make the change in an individual event, and save it – it doesn’t “stick”! If you open it again you note that the change you just made did not “stick” and it reverted back to the default – from DVR Settings. This looks like a bug to me. As others said, deleting commercials is useful most of the time, but can & does cause problems with PBS stations.
Please fix this.
Same problem but reversed. Default is disabled and can’t save individual setting to detect and delete!
It seems like the global DVR settings are overwriting the specific show settings. It’s unclear to me if it’s doing that when it’s opened, but the setting is actually intact, or if it’s only the global setting.
The issue is that global DVR Setting shows up after setting the preference for the specific recording. As far as I can see, the setting per recording is being actioned correctly - it is just that it is not displaying on the screen
So with DVR Setting for detecting and deleting commercials set to Disabled, having the option enabled for just the recording does run Plex Commercial Skipper.
Similarly the reverse is true with the option enabled globally on the DVR then when disabling for the recording, Plex Commercial Skipper does not get scheduled to run.
If this is not happening then please get me screenshots of settings and recording options and server logs.
Version 1.20
I have global set to detect commercials and mark for skip. It looks like this is working correctly.
However, if I change a specific show setting to Detect and Delete commercials and hit SAVE, it doesn’t save. When I check the settings again it’s still set to mark for skip.
Ununtu 16.04 LTS x64

@sa2000 With this version of Plex, individual override does not work either in the UI, or by watching recording behavior. DVR always does whatever action the Default is set to do. Individual program override does not stick in the UI, nor is the behavior modified. In both cases the “Default” action is performed.
Further changes have come in with version 1.20.2.3402
Release Notice
- (DVR) Server would not display user selected commercial skip setting for scheduled recording (#11921).
See if this resolves the issue, if not, please run with debug logging and download the Plex Media Server logs after completion of recording and post processing and indicate what the option was for the recording and which recording it was
