Setting up Plex on new qnap, old qnap dead, have data drives

Hi,

I did find the article “Moving Plex from a QNAP to a new QNAP” (Moving Plex from a QNAP to a new QNAP - #4 by roger_skepple_gmail_com) which is nice, but my scenario is slightly different though similar to the last comment and I didn’t see any reply so thought I’d ask just to be sure.

Essentially, my old qnap died. I have ordered a new one which is supposed to be compatible and I should be able to just update the firmware and such (and hopefully restore the settings backup file), then shut down and plug in my drives, boot up and the data should all be recognized. I’m not sure at this time if the plex app will be installed with that restored settings backup file or not, my guess is it won’t, so do you think the correct procedure should be to boot up and if the data is there on hard drives fine but no plex installed, rename the plex folder which I think is under “/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer”, to “PlexMediaServer.OLD” and then install Plex and go through your steps on ‘new machine’ which is restart pms, stop pms, delete the files in the PlexData share (which I think is the “/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer” folder??), then rename my PlexMediaServer.OLD back to PlexMediaServer and continue… ??

Note I have no way on “old machine” to turn off advanced settings of empty trash, periodic scan etc either, so is it possible to manually set those settings in a config file in my data file somewhere?

I assume so long as I’m signed in with my plex account on the new qnap after this stuff is done, it’ll recognize me as a plex pass account holder.

Thanks so much

Yes to above

Periodic scan is irrelevant for this, but empty trash can be disabled with a key/value as autoEmptyTrash="0" in the file
